TALKBACK: Godzilla (2014) - (OBVIOUS SPOILER DISCUSSION)

I just saw it for the 5th time yesterday and it still isn't getting old for me. I hope to see it one more time before it leaves theaters. All of my qualms with the movie have evaporated. My childhood idol was finally given the proper attention that he deserves. I love that Godzilla is once again relevant in pop culture.

Finally, I went and saw it last night. My reaction:

^I agree with your opinions for the most part, Armand. I especially do agree that the movie's first hour went by fast, so the wait didn't hurt me much. Specially the way the big guy is revealed, I love that pan-up shot.. very reminiscent of G'84 in my opinion.

Well, now that the ride is over for now, I think I'm going to step back from my activity here and focus on other more pressing matters. It's been fun and I'll probably check in from time to time when the movie begins to ramp up. Be well.

I can't wait until its released on Blu-Ray! I loved this movie a whole bunch, and look forward to what extras are on it. What I hope to see the most is the news footage shot for this movie. That must be a ride.

Also I really want to do a fan-edit of this movie with traditional special effects like that cut of Final Warriors.

I'm looking forward to the news footage....hopefully it's on the disc. Once I have it on home media I'll have a better idea of how I feel about it (you know, once I watch it a bajillion times)

Shusuke Kaneko just made a large Facebook status that mentions Godzilla, but probably isn't related to the movie yet (since he no doubt hasn't seen it yet). But he mentions Japan's radiation reputation several times and says something along the lines of "it's like something that would be on Digital BS Q."

Anybody know what he's talking about?

I thought that was alluding to him doing an interview for some program that's promoting the release of Godzilla.

I had wondered if maybe he had some choice words to say about the movie's allusion to Fukushima.

I know Nakajima, Satsuma, Takarada, and a bunch of Toho Execs loved the movie, but I am really wondering what other people important in the Kaiju community in Japan have to say.

Like say, Koichi Kawakita or Shunsuke Kaneko, or even Gamera staff? I am really curious as to what they think.

38.4 for the 4 day weekend. That's one hell of a drop. We'll see what the Tues vs Tues number is tomorrow... Hopefully over 4.

Best its gonna do in the current OS markets is 210. Funny, because 210 is where I think it'll end up domestically. I think you can add 30m for Japan and another 70 from China... So you're looking at around 520WW. On a budget of 160 and a profit margin starting at 380.. You're looking at around 140 in profit.. Not including merchandise and Dvd/blu ray sales... So if you look at it this way, its pretty decent for LP, WB and TOHO.

Without having looked at all the available numbers, I wouldn't be surprised to find that most movies saw reduced box office takes over the weekend; especially those, like the new Godzilla movie, that had overlapping audiences with the new X-Men movie.

X-Men:DOFP had a pretty large marketing push, definitely larger than Godzilla's. And the new X-Men movie is based on one of the BIG X-Men story arcs, that alone is bound to draw of comic fans everywhere. It'll be interesting to see whether X:DOFP sees a drop similar to those Captain America 2, Godzilla, etc. in their second weeks, with pretty much everything else going for the same demographic seeing a big drop I won't be surprised to see DOFP continue the trend.

I think the this coming weekend may prove more informative for the new Godzilla movie, I think it will still be doing fine if the box office numbers are relatively stable with this past weekend's numbers.

I took my nephew to see the new movie yesterday, there were plenty of kids in the theater which was nice to see and everyone seemed to be enjoying the movie. I think the new Godzilla movie may have ignited (re-ignited maybe?) his interest in Godzilla; he was certainly asking more questions about Godzilla than he has in a long while after the movie.

Okay, so I think that China will give extremely well to the overseas BO, maybe at least 110 like Pacific Rim. So that would take the current 166,600 total and make it 260 at least, blowing out of the water Cookson's predictions. Then maybe even more since it's a bigger name. Let's see how much it continues to do and how Japan reacts.

The legs aren't great, so I doubt it'll make more than 210 here. I don't think it'll do as well as Pacifc Rim did in China. I just feel it did well there simply because China was a major location in the film. Not saying I wouldn't be happy to see that number and a bigger amount in Japan.

You better stop hoping for anything in Japan. Pokemon XY opens the week before. And Japan is tired of kaiju. Deathly tired of kaiju. And Godzilla for that matter. The movie does have legs though (._. ) Why does a huge drop against X-Men surprise you though?
