How much Godzilla's decline can truly be attributed to bad word of mouth though? X-Men DOFP is much more of a hyped film IMO and considering its got a solid 90% on RT, I think if I were the average movie-goer I'd probably pick that one over Godzilla in heartbeat, but not because of bad word of mouth necessarily. I wonder if Godzilla would've dropped off as much as it did if it were released the weekend of the 9th and had a bit more breathing room.

Why hasn't the foreign boxoffice for Godzilla been updated since last weekend? I know for fact theaters still operate during the weekend in Europe. Best I can tell the world wide gross $229.6+ million. :?

Box office Mojo is reporting 8.8 million on Friday and 126 million overall. Captain America made 129 million over the same 8 day period. X-Men had 36 million Friday.

I do hate to be the bearer of bad news but it really does look grim for Godzilla this weekend. Box office mojo is estimating a drop of 77% (). Obviously we all knew Godzilla was going to have a significant drop-off but that seems a little crazy to me. Godzilla doens't appear to have the legs I'd wish it would, but I think that's due to it being a bit of a "mixed bag" movie.

I made me king of what people can say....

Read it, people can say what they want but when you constantly seek negative attention, then do not be surprised by it especailly someone who's only contributions are negative to this thread.

As for the B.O. Drop, I guess the high everyone got when it exceeded expectation the first week needs to be tempered by the second weekend drop. In reality, if you remove the extra 1st week money and add it to the second weekend, the movie is still where it needs to be.

Ah, screw it, I'm going outside to do something productive.

That's a horrible number. Now I'm worried if LP and WB will second guess the sequel. Now we can only hope Overseas don't disappoint... Bur these numbers are BAD.

The box office drop doesn't surprise me all that much since X-Men was pretty much going to crush anything that came before it. I don't even see Malificent knocking down X-Men next week. Why is everyone so fidgety about this? :? For all intents and purposes the movie is a success, and people expecting it too go on to make 700 million were way ahead of themselves. 500 million is a safer number and it'll easily make that number.

The movies are a changing market and the next big market is China. Expecting the movie to do well in China is not grasping for straws, or or false hopes. It's common sense if you're in the business of well.... ANYTHING. Newer people are entering the middle class every year, giving them luxuries like TV, Movies, music and video games that were not there a few years ago. It only makes sense for movie companies to release movies in China, a coveted market EVERY studio is trying to get their share of.

It was a somewhat decent week in the fandom at least. Somewhat.

Usual doom and gloom is about right, though I figure its much worse in other parts >_>.

What really makes me happy is how this movie made a bunch of new Godzilla fans out of little kids who were there

Feels good man

A disappointing number certainly, but not at all unexpected. X-Men was always going to take a big chunk of its box office this weekend, but Benjamin makes a good point about it being only 10% more than Cap's second weekend drop against basically zero competition in its same demographic after similar opening numbers. Godzilla certainly won't make as much money as Cap when all is said and done, but it'll certainly still be profitable.

Thankfully it surprised us all with how well it opened, and we've already got confirmation of a sequel, so even though we'd all like it to go on to make all the money in the world I'm not going to be breaking out the "Emergency Godzilla Franchise Death-Knell Survival Kit" just yet. :P
