Merchandising, licensing and home video sales will push this movie into profitability. If it can do it for Pacific Rim, Godzilla has a great shot.

Just hope it keeps up the pace when XMen DOFP is released. If its numbers dont drop like crazy it will have cleared the only major hurdle to it being a box office success I can see.

BTW anyone played Godzilla Smash 3? The game is hard as heck midway through tokyo. I am stuck on stage 17, though I refuse to buy in game stuff.

I figured nobody goes to movies during the work week,I went to imax showing thinking I would be the only one there!!.....Wroooong! very surprised.you know the theatre is pretty filled when people have to sit way in front of an Imax screen :lol:

You can definitely tell where Frank Darabont stepped in in later drafts, that's for sure.

It's got a lot of the bare bones stuff that we saw in the movie, but there are some massive changes. I'm through page 37 and it's pretty interesting.

The pacing seems to be a bit better. Godzilla seems to show up at what would be the forty minute mark, instead of the hour. There is also more of a focus on him than the mutos.

There's seems to be a budding consensus that the trailers weren't entirely accurate. Not dishonest, just a sleight-of-hand.

So, two questions –

1.) Do you think the movie would have been better if Godzilla was the unambiguous bad guy?
2.) Do you think the movie would do better financially?

My suspicion is that WB/LP knew that, no matter what, the audience would cheer Godzilla - so why fight it?
