Still not gonna get to see it until Thursday but I am waiting with baited breath!!!!

I really don't want Hollywood to remake a ton of Toho monsters. I want more monsters added to the Tohoverse! King Ghidorah can be in the third movie but give us another new monster too!

I could see Mothra being some sort of telepathic, benevolent, MUTO-like creature. But I think she needs to be a protector of some sort, even GMK retained that. If the Shobijin are used, I don't think they have to be tiny native fairies (I don't think there have to be natives worshipping Mothra at all), just a pair of young girls Mothra connects to. Even something like the prophetess from Ghidorah the Three-Headed Monster would work for me.

Infant Island (or whatever they go with) could simply be this series' Monster Island. I could also see Godzilla having a kind of Battra-type relationship with Mothra, Godzilla protecting the land while Mothra looks after its inhabitants. This yin-yang dynamic could cause conflict.

Okay there's my Mothra ramble. She's an important aspect to this franchise so even if they do reinvent her I hope it's done right. If she's a giant, nasty, insect-like creature that would just be the MUTOs again.

I suppose you could connect Mothra directly to humanity in some way, though that would have obvious parallels to Gamera.

As long as Mothra remains a hero and a true defender of the Earth, that's all I look for. However, with this new Godzilla being a hero "setting things right" for mother nature, I'm wondering how they would present them as foils for one another.

What's up with the Mothra discussion? For the sequel? I'd like them to be rivals at first then realize they need to work together to dispose of the greater threat! King Ghidorah!!!

Mothra could still essentially fulfill the role Godzilla does currently, they just need a conflict of interest. If not all the governments agree on Godzilla being a nature balancing "hero", then there's a good possibility that some would still try to destroy the monster, even with nuclear weapons. Mothra not wanting a futile attempt at subduing Godzilla endangering the environment further, might try to put the big guy to "sleep", thus taking him out of the picture. If any other MUTO's appear Mothra would offer to deal with them herself.

Not that it'd go to plan of course, but it wouldn't be hard for them to manufacture a scenario where the two have to fight initially, and then maybe combine forces later.

I'd like to think that Toho would prevent them from portraying Mothra as villainous.

An old acquaintance and friend of mine named Peter co-produced, acted, and did visual effects in this. Now we're finding out why Legendary asked for suit-makers to contact them not long ago!

I am enjoying this Mothra talk. I like to believe that the Shobijin are a psychic manifestation from Mothra. As to how Mothra could be a foil to a heroic Godzilla it could be as Mothra caring about collateral damage where as Godzilla really does not and is happy so long as the job gets done.

COMPLETLELY 100% ABSOLUTELY CERTIFIED SPOILER-FREE REVIEW:
I loved it. I loved it so much I can't wait to go back and see it on Thursday. The 3D adds nothing. Some of the complaints we've heard thus far are valid, and it'll be up to you how much they do or do not bother you, but all of the positives are also completely valid, and it'll be up to you to decide whether those positives outweigh the negatives which for me they did to the tune of a SOLID 4 out of 5 with the chance to bump up to a 4.5 out of 5 if it holds up on repeat views and I still enjoy it. It won't displace Mothra vs. Godzilla or Gojira at the very top of my list...but pretty much any spot from 3-10 is where this will land and I'm thinking probably somewhere around 4-6.

Now, I'm still gonna keep it spoiler-free, but if you want a lengthier look from my POV with what I would call VERY MILD spoilers, I'm gonna throw down in the talkback thread

Current score - Jelly: 4 out of 5, King Ghidorah: 7 out of 10. Lookin' pretty good.

You know, last week I was thinking this is going to be a polarizing G-film (which big G-film isn't?) but I'm starting to think that maybe it could be more unanimous.

Yeah, August was pretty skeptical, so to see him give it his approval is a big win, IMO.

an observation am seeing with reviews from non-Godzilla fans. Most seem to like it enough to give it a passing grade but almost all of them keep downing the human story (at least in the 2nd half) and nobody liking Johnson as the lead is becoming consistent. Not that this turns me off to the film but i find it kinda interesting that so many reviews on Rotten Tomatoes give a fresh grade yet you would not think that if you read the full review. I really am wondering if alot of g-fans will like it more upon a second viewing.
