If they had made the legs slightly smaller on the Heisei style design, it would have been perfect. What a shame they botched the mouth so badly. Talked to a friend who does catering in the LA area and he got to see the film and liked it but thinks the transition from Cranston to Kick Ass does not work and makes ATJ's acting look really weak in comparison and almost razzie worthy in spots.

Regardless of how they scored the film, all the reviews I read seem to be consistent. Weak human elements, gets a little choppy, a few plot holes, and there's a wait before we see Godzilla. But Godzilla, the sfx, the fights, and the visuals is what seems to make this movie strong. Plus, it seems like the tone chops out all the comic relief that we got in Pacific Rim, which I think is great. So, Godzilla movie with not so great human characters, but great monsters? Works for me. I'm not going to see this movie to see humans anyways!! :D

I'm just worried that I'm SO excited for it, that I'll be disappointed, get what I mean?

Let this look back at one of the best sci fi movies ever and how it was viewed an then look at what we see today. Any similarities?

Sitting here in 2014, the 34th year since its release, it can be hard to believe that The Empire Strikes Back wasn’t always lauded as the movie masterpiece it clearly is. On the contrary, its arrival back on May 20, 1980, was welcomed with an array of mixed, lukewarm, and indifferent reviews on both sides of the Atlantic from newspapers, magazines, and TV critics alike.
You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!

A review that states that Johnson's performance is actually really good.

This isn't the first time I've heard that ATJ's acting isn't actually bad in this film. Who knows, maybe he'll surprise us.

My flixster movie fone app I normally use to pick movies and I'm sure alot of iOS users may reference has it at 85% critic recviews with 17 positive, 3 negative but one negative from the guardian only says "at least they got the monster right. Another says atjs wooden performance drags the movie down in contrast to Cranstons great acting. The final negative review is critical overall of human performances.

Instead of focusing on the few negative reviews probably more important to look at the 85% positive ones which is awesome for a critic reviewed movie. I expect the fan reviews to be more positive. Captain America 2btw had an 89% critic review and 94% fan review but they were spread further at first. Amazing Spider-Man 2 is 54% and 73% respectively.

*Cue the people saying reviews don't matter*

...and though I tend more towards that side (reviews don't matter) I also think you can't be wholly dismissive of them. There's going to be an outlier or two or ten on both sides of the aisle: "That was TERRIBLE." 'Why?' "Because the whole thing sucked, from end to end...duh!" and on the flip side, "That was AWESOME!" 'Why?' "Because GODZILLA AND FIF YOU DONT LIKE IT YOU AINT A FAN YOU POSER **** **** * *** * *!!!!!"

When looking at reviews, you need to be able to separate out the people who were ALWAYS going to like it, and the people who were ALWAYS going to hate it, and find the people who weigh the positives and negatives and then reach their verdict.....AND EVEN THEN you need to be mindful of whether the positives and negatives that one person lists will be the same as yours AND what weight you personally would give to those positives and negatives.

Reviews can be extremely helpful.....most people don't use them correctly, though.

So, first the too-long human drama was going to be as engrossing as Jaws and now the mixed reviews are being compared to Empire Strikes Back? C'mon, the consensus is the human drama stinks and there is way too much of it, which anyone who saw Edwards film Monsters knew would happen.

Only punks can't handle a slow-burn, character driven monster film.

This is right up my alley. I can't freaking wait for Thursday.

Y'know, this would feel like an interesting conversation if we were still like a month away.

But we're not. We're DAYS away (some of us less). Let's just find out for ourselves, yes?

A lot of people have been saying Cranston absolutely steals the show in the first third, though, and likewise I keep hearing that "the payoff is totally worth it."

I predict it's gonna hold strong.

I'd guess that depends on just how "boring" you find it to be...it might not feel very boring at all on a second viewing, might be one of those movies where repeat viewings make you appreciate certain parts that you find "boring" the first time because you just want to see Godzilla, a little more.

I know that happened for me with PacRim. The first time I saw it, while I loved it, I worried how it might hold up on subsequent viewings due to the long stretches where there wasn't much action. On subsequent viewings, I started to really like the characters and their quirks and personalities a lot and now I enjoy scenes with Mako about as much as I enjoy monsters punch robots.

It's the same with a lot of Godzilla movies. On my first viewings, I didn't like all the "boring" human stuff in Monster Zero and G2K. Now, these are some of my favorite Godzilla movies and I really dig the characters and the monsters are just icing on the cake.

I don't understand why people would say "reviews don't matter" defensively right now. Everything I've read is very positive and even the criticisms seem to be coming under fire by the critics. It's like a summer a movie blockbuster that people forgot used to exist. That's the impression I, and others even in professional circles, are getting. I think that's fairly interesting from the get go. Godzilla fan or not.

All things considered, reviews matter and they don't matter. I from my own personal experience, tend to agree that if a movie on Rotten tomatos has a 90% or more then i usually will like the film....there are a few where the film scores a 50 or below and I still like but its also a film where i understand why poeple didn't like it. If 1-2 people don't like a movie then yeah it doesn't matter to much to me, If 1-2 thousand people like a movie then no matter what that movie it is...i'm likley to like it too. Granted, this is a kinda obvious statment but figure woth mentioning.
