(General thoughts given how some of the recent discussion has gone with accusations of personal attacks, etc)
I'd say it's all in the way you present your opinions. Several people have expressed displeasure with various aspects:
The feet
The face
The teeth
The roar
The spines
The notion of Godzilla taking on a more heroic role
The idea of Godzilla being more force-of-nature, less anthropomorphic
The gills
The arms
The score
The actors
The texture
All of these things (and more) have come under criticism from various people around here. I know I specifically have said negative things about the feet, the score, and the anti-hero idea...but it's all in the way you phrase those things and the way you act towards others and differing opinions that dictates how people respond.
Differing opinions are fine...they're GREAT, they stir the pot and encourage discussion. We've had some lengthy gill discussions that only OCCASIONALLY bordered on getting a little too heated, we've had some good score discussion, we've had some excellent discussions in regards to the tone...but if you're going to attack every differing opinion OR take every dissenting or differing opinion as an attack, then you're gonna think that it's all just anger and rage.
There has genuinely been trolling on BOTH sides, and those individuals have been either warned and reformed, or been banned due to repeatedly breaking the forum guidelines. The people still around (in general) have been expressing their opinions in rational ways, weighing the positives and negatives, expressing joys and concerns, fears and excitements, and will ALL be aflutter in the weeks to come as the film starts getting screened and we all start seeing it.
I'd say that on both sides, accusations of personal attacks are just people being overly heated about something they care about, because I've not seen much that constitutes a personal attack.
I dunno if this rant made any sense, but the SHORT version:
We're all excited/anxious/nervous/happy/etcetcetc but debate your opinions, not your personalities.
