Watching battleships get tossed around by Godzilla's wake is definitely something I am glad to see that we would have never gotten in a Japanese film.

So...no one's gonna talk about how it's Ishiro Honda's birthday today?

Even if you don't like Monster Zero, you can't deny that it's a better made film than Ghidrah.

Has anyone else noticed that the new Godzilla bears a slight resemblance to the old 70s Shogun Warriors toy? Especially in the brow area?

The flying MUTO, to me, looks like Rodan via H.R. Giger, which is not a bad thing.

I've always wanted to see Giger design a kaiju for Godzilla to fight.

Honestly, it's difficult to decide which of the three films made 1964-65 is my favorite. I love all three. :D

Monster Zero gets hella props for having a really neat constellation of characters and for merging the space opera and the monster film, and it's got a perfect cast and some great envelope-pushing effects. And the basic story is pretty much classic. By all marks, it is technically a better-made movie, but...

Ghidrah wins out for the sheer spectacle and for the genre-mixing of its own. Plus it's way more fun.

I'm ashamed to say that I'm not doing anything today for Honda's birthday, otherwise I'd totally pop in something. But alas, I have plans to make.

...Who'm I kiddin'? I'll probably stay up late an watch something.

Or not. I do like sleep. If anything, I watched Godzilla's Revenge a couple of weeks ago, so I guess that counts for something.
Oh well, I'm sure G.H.I.D.R.A.H will be watching something together very soon. :) And then, the world ends....
