My thoughts on some of these recent clips (and yes, these are based *solely* on the clips and not a final judgement at all until I actually see the film, so let’s spare the usual condescending, juvenile comments. I’ll be posting the “not a final judgement until I see the film” disclaimer throughout just in case a few of the usual suspects are too dense to grasp this concept):
- Overall, I’m really liking the tone and feel of the film. The clips have a serious tone, but not too serious/brooding, which often plagues a lot of Hollywood hero/reboot films today. Let's hope this balanced tone translates over the entire film as a whole.
- David Strathairn seems to be in very good form…he’s one of the more underrated character actors out there today. And Cranston is Cranston, excellent in almost any role he takes on.
- I’m rather indifferent on Elizabeth Olsen…nothing good nor bad to say from clips I’ve seen, and I haven’t seen enough of her other work to really comment.
- Unfortunately, I’m not too high on Aaron Taylor-Johnson from what little I’ve seen thus far. He seems wooden and flat in his delivery and just lacks charisma in general…again, I’ll wait until I see the film and his full performance before making a final judgement.
- My opinion hasn’t change on this design for Godzilla….it’s about as fugly of a G design as they come, and if that still offends the usual suspects on here, then too bad….my opinion won’t be changing on this matter, no matter how popular/unpopular it may be viewed on here.
However, as canofhumdingers stated above, *at least* it can be classified as an *actual* Godzilla design to be criticized, and the importance of this cannot be understated. And from the few clips we’ve seen of him, he is acting and behaving like…*gasp!* Godzilla (wow Hollywood, what a concept!

) So these are definitely good signs….I just wish they could have come up with a better design than this fugly thing we're stuck with, but at least close enough to be called "Godzilla".
- For me, the jury is still out regarding MUTO as a foe/adversary…he(?) looked “ok” in his toy form, but I’ve been less than impressed with the the *very* few and brief clips we've seen…seems like a very generic flying monster typical of Hollywood CGI. But we’ve barely seen him/her/it, so definitely not a final judgement...who knows, it could end up blowing us away, so we shall see.
Oh, the irony of living in Japan, and not being able to see the film until 2 months later...
