This shouldn't be surprising to anyone. Since day one, Edwards has been comparing this film to Jaws. Most of the Showa films have what, 15-20 minutes total of on screen monster time in a 90 minute picture? If I want 100% Godzilla screen time I'll play Saves the Earth. This is a film, I want to feel something.

This should not have been surprising for anyone who watched the wonder con footage and read the track listings.

So.

All the reactions were mostly positive. Even not seeing Godzilla a whole bunch, people still enjoyed it. I'm ok with that.

Also, this was basically Edwards' formula for Monsters. We always saw glimpses of the beasts or felt their impact, but it wasn't until the end that we were able to see them for an extended period of time. Id much rather have a story and characters I care about and then see how Godzilla comes into play than a bunch of nonsensical eye candy. There's a place for that, but it's usually in a Michael Bay film. I can even enjoy the Transformers films for what they are, but I'm hoping for a special Godzilla movie and not just endless effects shots.

And the comparisons to Jaws, Alien, and Jurassic Park...if Godzilla is even close to those we will have a winner.

Way to go, comicbookmovie.com, frame your stupid article around one negative tweet.

Doesn't this technically go against the "review embargo" posting these tweets and making generalizing statements about the movie?

Other things to think about:
Transfomers films (and PacRim) - about twenty minutes longer than Godzilla.
Lord of the Rings - about an hour longer than Godzilla

That makes a difference. Seems to me like we'll be getting a Godzilla movie with the usual amount of Godzilla in it. I mean, a LARGE number of G flicks aren't wall-to-wall monster action:
Gojira
Godzilla Raids Again
Godzilla vs. Monster Zero
Destroy All Monsters
Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla
Godzilla 1985
Godzilla 2000
Godzilla x Mechagodzilla
GFW

Now, we could debate the quality of each of these movies, but I think in that group there are at least 2 or 3 that most people really like. Also, whether or not you like them, the point remains that it's not like it's unprecedented for a Godzilla film.[/quote]

And this is something I very much agree with. I'd rather a good movie with minimal Godzilla then a bad movie with alot of Godzilla.

Eh... The tweets were basically positive... Not worried about it.

^^^ Yeah I hear ya. As long as when he pops up it is memorable and that's all that matters at the end of the day.

My favorite part of Alienis the snooping around the planet and all that build up to the chest burster.

Ok, Guys. I've been lurking here since...well, I can't remember when and have been following all the news regarding the production of the new movie from day one. HAD to share my excitement with you!

I will be attending a special, early press screening of the movie in Warsaw, Poland on May 13th! Skreeeoooonk can not wait!!! The marketing is slowly picking up in Poland. I have seen a couple of huge billboards in the city centre and on the IMAX theatre (yes, we have only one IMAX theatre in Warsaw) and it's only 10 minutes (walking distance) from my apartment. :)

Will post my own review as soon as I see the movie. Surely will see it more than once. :) Early screening first and than the first available IMAX screening. :) Last twelve months were such an incredible ride for a true Godzilla fan like me. I still do not believe that the film will be released here in just two weeks! :)

^And there are people who hate Gamera 3 because it has too many "talky" scenes.

These people are probably going to hate this movie.

G2 and G3 wowed me. GOTU did not, but it's actually a good kaiju flick and sort of harkens back to the Showa glory days.

On topic:

2 weeks.

I just keep telling myself that.

2 weeks.
