If the entire movie is structured like the Wondercon footage in terms of buildup, pay off and tension, it'll get old fast.

considering that was only 5 minutes of the movie, I highly doubt it

Just to be clear, I don't have a problem with what the test-screeners were saying. I like that Edwards will essentially be teasing us.

I said what I said in the hopes of trying to relieve tension.

The crux of the matter, of course, is whether or not the payoff will be worth it. If even the payoff is mostly Godzilla and the other monsters being "seen in glimpses," with their fight scenes being disjointed and viewed mostly from the point of view of ATJ et al while they're doing something else...well, let's just say I'll be pretty bummed.

Hannibal, I didn't get that from these recent reactions at all. It sounds like you may be projecting your fears of the film a little bit.

What I got out of it was that the final fight is the one that we see the most of. And that is the one that I'm pretty sure you're talking about.

yeah, I'm probably projecting, whatever. But I can't read things like "mostly seen in glimpses" and "discreetly glimpsed monster battles" and that sort of thing without automatically assuming the worst.

The thing is that so far, only one tweet and one article have stated that(at least, as far as I know). The majority reaction has been positive.

I don't know, I guess we'll see when the film gets released.

One of the articles mentioned WB covering 25% of production costs, so that could be why sequels would likely stay with WB. However, it's not necessarily out of the realm of possibility that Universal could buy a share of a sequel if it means Godzilla and King Kong get to square off again.

I think the combination of King Kong and Godzilla could be just as potent a draw today as it was 50 years ago, and the very idea of it might be enough sway the most intractable of executives. It really just comes down to if all the relevant parties want to play ball.

I'm excited, reason being it would look too phony if we have a story going on then all the sudden, it stops for 30 minutes of monsters fighting it out, then back to the people it would be silly. I know it's not cloverfield style where you just get little glimpses, and in reality it will be similar to the normal Godzilla movie screen time.

The problem is that people seem to think that it should be 1:30 minutes of monsters fighting and the rest acting. Um, that would probably suck and get old real quick. I don't remember thinking, WOW, that's all they are going to show of the dinos in Jurassic Park?

It's just that we now have too much media, and that includes anyone with a cell phone and a twitter account. Just go see the freaking movie and be on with it. I'm guessing new or non fans will really like the movie if the story is good and the monsters are a bonus.

I mean trailers? Used to be you had to get lucky to see one, maybe two before a movie came out, then it was word of mouth and curiosity that drove people to theaters. Now we get teasers, trailers, tv spots, international trailers, etc....then people complain they've seen to much, the movie is ruined (sure some trailers do tell too much) but generally we only have ourselves to blame.

I mean I love to chat and this stuff doesn't spoil it but, facebook discussions, sites like this, people starting sites that post every picture and production note and spy photo can ruin movies for some people, so who's to blame? Hell Disney put up a circus tent in the middle of the Dubai desert and we already have pictures of that with set pieces being rolled into it and dissected to no end.

At the end of the day, either this movie will be great, good, OK or suck. I personally think it will be great/good at the very least. I'd rather get some short bursts of monster battles with different perspectives thrown in for scale and dramatic effect to convey the real danger. Would the golden gate footage that's been shown carry as much weight if we didn't see the kids on the school bus? Naah, just do a long shot showing Godzilla fighting the military and make the people just a gaggle of cars on the bridge, they will get it....NO! Why the dog on the beach? While people are sympathetic to a point, them bailing on ole Yeller makes him the sympathetic point.

So in the end, I'm level headed about this, but GINO it's not and quite frankly I think it has the potential to be in the top 3 of all time.

Now, rest easy my fellow fans, for I believe that most of us will be very pleased with the final product.

Here's an example:

Effects shots for the Transformer characters in the first movie, and there are far more than 3 Autobots and Decepticons

Total: 420

Godzilla: 327 for the 3 creatures. Now, while the number is smaller, the amount of different creatures is far less as well.

Again,

Lord of the rings, total number of VFX shots (They pretty much had to create a whole world in this one)

540

Godzilla where they tried to use as much real space as possible (which I like)

418

BTW, the almost completely CGI movie, Pacific Rim (Think about how many shots were practical, just a handful of set pieces) totaled 1600 (That's Kaiju/Jager and background/cities) Compared to 745 for Godzilla. That sounds about right IMO

So again, I think we could look at movies differently if we didn't have access to all this info but it is what it is.

Oh, and the wife nixed my idea to rent a whole theater, seems that 2 grand could be used for better things...like new bedroom furniture....LOL So I'm seeing it the night before in IMAX (First time I've done IMAX so I'm excited)

Unless my cousin comes through, then an early L.A. screening may happen.

At least I have my new outdoor theater completed....it will be fun next fall to show Godzilla drive-in style!!!

Guys, I just got back from a screening of the original Godzilla 1954! It was okay, but Godzilla's barely in it! He just pokes his head in every now and then and mostly it's just people talking. Then he shows up in Tokyo, and that's about it. Kinda lame, honestly. Super-overrated movie!

....

It's going to be pandemonium in two weeks.
