Read the other day they're remaking the George Burns/Art Carney/Lee Strasberg 1979 comedy "Going In Style" re-tooled as a vehicle for Bill Murray.

Don't know how I feel about this. The original is just one of the the best films showing aging and shwocasing three of THE best actors of their generation. On the other hand, depending on who the other 2 starts are, and IF they can get a more nuanced performance from Murray like he gave in Groundhog Day, it might be a lot of fun. As long as they keep the semi-straight script intact from the 79 version and don't turn it into some stupidarse, old-fart version of The Hangover, or something equally gawd-awful.

Has Ed Helms ever been funny aside from the first Hangover film? And honestly, he's NOT Frank Drebben. He doesn't come off as clueless enough.

It's hard to believe the Phantom's last movie outing was almost 20 years ago. It'd be great if a new Phantom movie is a period piece (1930s); in fact since the Phantom was established as a generational hero from the get-go a studio could bounce around time when doing sequels. Do a movie set in the 1930s, then do another one set in the 1500s (first Phantom's time period), and then jump to the near future (20xx), etc. All along keeping the same actor playing the Phantom, only with the secret identity changing depending on which particular Phantom is in the story.

The project has been quiet since 2011 but Goyer's involvement kick-starts and will re-engineer what the studio and producers hope to be an event-sized tentpole. It is also now placing the project on the fast track.
