That is a big No sir. Gigan can only be improved by the dub. The acting was so poor that the dub did it a favor.

Same for like half the Heisei movies, which were cinematically inferior than their first two entries and a lot of Showa entries. When you got no cinematography (more like TV movie camera work honestly), and the acting is okay at best you hope for an international version that improves.

Which is what seems to be the case with Godzilla 2000.

I think stuff like OVER 9000 allows us to enjoy both. That line is a pop culture reference now. While I do prefer my stuff to be more straight laced and accurate, but there's a place for some of hilarity that comes with dubs. Plus, shows like Cowboy Bebop and The Big O have amazing dubs. There's a place for dubs and subs.

Everything edited OUT (like lengthy shots of military doing nothing and mega-dated Y2K references) of G2K in the US cut AND edited IN (like musical cues anda much better sense of humor) make the US cut SUPERIOR to the Japanese cut.

That's why one might watch an edited version of a movie.

And I though the vs. MechaGodzilla II DVD looked weak. Yikes. I hope the vs. King Ghidorah and vs. Destroyah discs look better. Like I said, I'm putting off on getting these, but the more I hear/see about them the less excited I am for them. The vs. MechaGodzilla II / vs. SpaceGodzilla double feature is practically a no-buy for me right now.

Well poop. Standard Toho grade video transfers. Well, at least I've got a picture setting saved on my tv specifically for Toho's HD transfers... That should work the same magic on these as it has for me on the others. They still won't look as good as they should with decent quality transfers, but they should look noticeably better than they do in those screenshots.

But even though these are yet again sub-par, check out the comparison to the DVD of spacegodzilla! Yikes! I didn't realize just how poorly that disc had aged (probably because I haven't watched it in forever), but it's saying something when the Toho HD master is that much better looking than the previous release... That combined with the dual language (finally!) audio and subs, even if they are disappointing dubtitles, means I'll still be getting these, but I won't be so thrilled about it as I had been.

I've learned one thing, though - I won't be believing anything else Sony has to say any time soon. And I'll be much more discriminatory about what of their products I choose to buy.
