New Transformers Series (2015)

The choice of making Bumblebee the new leader does not surprise me, and I am AOK with it really.

Hell it can't be any worse than Rodimus's callous self deprecating "Order-Ultra-Magnus-To-Blow-Up-Sandstorm's-Homeworld-In-Order-To-Save-It-Then-Sneer-At-Him-When-He-Mourns-Over-It'-leadership"

Bring it on I say.

If it's half as good as Animated, I will be pleased

EDIT: JEFFERSON FROM MARRIED WITH CHILDREN IS ON THIS. WTF!

Sequel to Transformers: Prime? I'm game. Lets see where this goes. I'm glad they're sticking to that universe instead of just rebooting again.

I mean, it may be Bumblebee, but I like the idea of a show without Optimus.

A sequel to Prime? Bad news already.

Starring Bumblebee? Come on guys, you do know you have a whole lot of OTHER characters out there, right? One by the name of RODIMUS PRIME in fact. Just saying.

I have to see more info as it's released before I even give an opinion on it. It being a sequel to Prime though is a positive.

Might be interesting to see a Transformers series that doesn't revolve around Optimus or Megatron. I'm a little disappointed that they won't be doing the same animation style as Transformers: Prime.

On one of the tie-in products it showed Optimus....
I hope Optimus is just a spirit guide kind of character and he doesn't get resurrected in the opening episodes.

Rodimus is one of the reasons Season 3 of G1 is the best. He had to grow as a leader He had character development. He was not the bland Mr Positive that Optimus was.

Plus, even if you did not like him in G1, it does not mean you will not like him in a future series. Bumblebee and Optimus are over done. They are giant pieces of charcoal at this point.

I MUCH prefer Hot Rod to Rodimus. I mean, I get what they were trying to do, but they did it in the worst way because they just made Rodimus someone I hate.

Shin probably said it best. Rodimus might've been the best thing about Season 3 had his development gone anywhere. As it stands bringing back Optimus by the season's end made too much sense. It's like Rodimus never learned anything and kept flunking the leader thing right and left so it was all a big countdown for when someone who could actually wear the pants returned.

I understand the attempt with Rodimus, but it went nowhere, which kinda sums up Season 3 of G1: Good ideas, some even important to the longevity of the franchise, but they were too good of ideas for the execution it got. And if we want to count Headmasters, and Rodimus's return as leader, how appropriate is it that he "leaves to find another home world" and takes the Matrix with him never to be heard from again. I envision him on some planet by himself, chillin' on a Cybertronian bean bag chair eating Cybertronian cheetos, watching Cybertronian pr0nz and using the Matrix as a back scratcher while his race plunges into chaos.

One of my problems with Rodimus's characterization in season three is, like you said, it goes nowhere, and it's totally inconsistent. Some episodes, he's a good leader and seems totally confident. Other episodes, he's whining about responsibility. There's no flow to it, it's back and forth. And yeah, his behavior on Paradron was just awful.

If you think Rodimus' development went nowhere then you have never seen The Burden Hardest to Bear. The worst thing about Season 3 was bringing Optimus back because it showed Hasbro had no balls.

^Except nothing in that episode stuck to Rodimus. If it had truly gone somewhere it would've added to a consistent arc where Rodimus becomes a strong, likable leader. But it didn't and he didn't. Optimus's return, fan pandering or not, was all the sweeter due to the hair-receding inconsistency Rodimus carried throughout the season. Headmasters didn't help either.

Either way it's cut, Rodimus' character was mad inconsistent and by the time he got a decent episode, everyone had had enough and brought back Optimus.

And in either Headmasters continuity (Japanese or that POS Akom crapped out) Rodimus gets reduced to just being there in the back.

It's even more apparent in Japanese Headmasters that the crew liked Ultra Magnus more than Rodimus since they kept him around as a top officer all the way until they killed him off in a duel with Sixshot.

Rodimus didn't even get a glorified death. Just written out.

The cynical dudes at TFwiki nailed it perfectly.

"Rodimus Prime destroys an entire planet rather than let the Decepticons have it. After it blows up and Sandstorm mourns its loss, Rodimus even has the gall to say that "Cybertron's a better place anyway, not so perfect." And people wonder why so many prefer Optimus Prime!"

There you have it. Rodimus is that a-hole who is in charge of urban renewal, who'll blow up your house and tell you his neighborhood is better than yours anyway.

I'll go even further; Using the same characterization as he had in those episodes, especially Fight or Flee; that is to say, keep the energy sources out of the enemy's hands, if Rodimus was in charge of the first wave of Autobots that fought on Earth in the 1980s, Rodimus would have been content with blowing up Earth to keep all of the energy sources out of Megatron's hands.

The Rebirth is far better in its 3 episodes than the entirety of Headmasters.

I do agree that they did write Rodimus inconsistently, but the series was always inconsistent. The Decepticons get knocked into lava in Heavy Metal War but then they are back like nothing happened in the next episode between S1 and 2. The Constructicons were built on Earth by Starscream and Megatron in S1, but they were reprogrammed to be evil by Megatron on Cybertron in S2, only to be the ones who built Megatron in S3.

But the main characters had a bar set for character consistency in seasons 1 and 2 that was apparently way too high for Rodimus in Season 3. At the end of the day you knew where those characters were in their lives. Rodimus suffered from some sort of bi-polar programming that kept him from getting anywhere, making Season 3 completely obnoxious. It's a shame because I otherwise enjoy a lot of Season 3, but getting through it is pain when you have to sit through Rodimus.

Yes, Rodimus is far from perfect, but I will still take him over Mr Always Positive Optimus. I don't hate G1 Optimus, but as far as leaders go, he was as bland and one dimensional as Duke in the GI Joe toon.

Being one dimensional does not make a bad character. Consistency and characterization are more important for a character who is already the big good. He doesn't need any more character development, because at this point in time all the character development happened to him before. Spike and Bumblebee are the ones who would be more in need of character development because of their young status in the ranks.

Dr. Kain; too cynical for positive people.

Rodimus had all this stuff to fill in, and the writers blew it on how inconsistent he was. But more than that, he gave viewers reasons to NOT like him. Springer and Kup stayed mostly the same from their movie depictions. Arcee too. Ultra Magnus got a bump from being an incompetent leader from the movie into being a strong reasonable authority figure and a lieutenant.

Rodimus went south and then everywhere, plus reasons for viewers to not like him.
