Ohh I was hoping I'd get a reaction image with those racist genocidal guys from 40K!

But yeah, that's been my long held belief. Masaru Sato's scores for his Godzilla outings are mostly new compositions. The only time I ever heard him reuse an old theme was the reuse of Kumonga's theme in King Ceasar's fight with Mechagodzilla.

heh, the reaction image was mostly a joke

I agree with you to an extent though. Sato's scores at their best are pretty fun and memorable, but they can't touch Ifukube's best work, even if he did have the tendency to be pretty samey and self-derivative.

I think Sato's most impressive Godzilla score is the leitmotif for Mechagodzilla. Looking at memes and everything on Nico Nico Douga, that's the theme associated with Mechagodzilla. Not the compositions for TOMG or GvsMGII. I don't think Ifukube could have come up with a theme as memorable.

The Mechagodzilla theme is pretty memorable sure (and I really like the jungle music from Son of Godzilla myself), but c'mon. Ifukube had the Godzilla theme, Godzilla and JSDF marches, and all sorts of other compositions that are practically indistinguishable from the movies themselves. I think you'll find that plenty of Godzilla fans can't even imagine Godzilla rampaging through Tokyo or fighting the likes of Mothra, Rodan, or Ghidorah without Ifukube's score mentally accompanying them. Ifukube's Heisei work wasn't his best, granted, but his early Showa stuff is unrivaled IMO.

It suddenly clicked for me why this Godzilla has such a weird scale patter on his chest/ stomach. It actually makes a lot of sense that the most vulnerable part of his body would have an extra layer of protection. Pretty cool.

His hands sure do look webbed in that scene, but none of the toys have shown this to be a feature. Maybe IR's because his hands are splayed in that scene?

Either way, if they are webbed, I love it. Another awesome croc element added. New tvspot was good. That was an awesome money shot.

I like the webbed hands. I love that we can have that, gills, and sauropod-esque feet but still retain the classic Godzilla look. It's good that its such a distinctive design to stand alongside all of the others.

He looks awesome.

The webbed hands don't bother me and frankly are in line with Goji being amphibious.

Godzilla doesn't have webbed hands. His middle finger is pointed towards the camera in that shot, making his palm look like webbing.

Not sure I'd bet he does or does not have webbed hands based on toys or promotional art that doesn't 100% accurately represent the design. It's hard to tell, but either way I'm fine with it.

Nice shot! As much as I'm fine with atmospheric nighttime scenes, it is good to see that those aren't going to be the only times he appears, and that we'll be getting a good look at him in the daylight too.

And yeah going back a bit, that tune isn't anything special, but if it's just the opening montage or some other random sequence and not a major theme, then it'll be fine.

I about crapped my pants... saw a gif of it on Tumblr before I even saw the trailer.... and I still have to see it with sound!

Not seein' the webbed hands, though. Don't forget the shot we've seen of his hand coming down in front of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Didn't see any webbed skin there.

Listened to this:

I'm digging this a whole lot more. I do wish it were a bit more bombastic though.
Still like it.

I wonder if that might be Godzilla's "victory" shot, after he's defeated the MUTO's.

^ It'd be a great shot. I do hope we get some kind of classic styled shot. Like Godzilla wading off into the ocean through the sunrise (or sunset).
