So I guess I'm the only person that likes this as the theme?

Its different, yeah, but that doesn't make it a bad theme, and I don't think it makes it a bad Godzilla theme. There's enough menace and huge horns that I can imagine Godzilla stomping around to this.

I actually like it. It is dark and it is also epic. I think it fits this image here:

Towards the end of the track it literally sounds like a cat is being murdered to me.

I think it's okay, but if it's the "theme" for the creature it feels a little weak. Still, it's just a sample so it's not like I can say one way or another about the score as a whole.

Other than the random twitter comments from Slash and that other guy a page or two back, when do you guys think more "legitimate" reviews will start coming in? Usually its a week or two early that some film blogs will post a review so I'm going to guess the first week of May. What do you guys think?

A few people over at TK, including, Chris, have said that the reviews are going to be coming in pretty damn close to the release date (like, less than week out), just because Warner Bros. has a track record of keeping reviews from getting out for as long as possible. Just a quick glance at RT shows, for example, that Man of Steel's reviews didn't start coming in until 4 days before release; Pacific Rim had its first review 5 days out (but it was the only one on that day; the rest came in 4 days out); and The Dark Knight Rises had its first reviews up, again, 4 days before release. I see no reason why Godzilla won't be the same way. We probably won't see the first "official" reviews posted until the week of.

Well, it wouldn't be in line with the way this movie has gone so far to let us know anything before it's absolutely necessary now, would it?

At this point it seems safe to assume we only had 2 trailers for the film...just like Pac Rim...kind of an understated marketing push right?

A good theme should be memorable enough to hum to yourself.

Everyone knows the Bond them. Everyone knows the Rocky theme.

This is just a complete nothing.

The score won't make or break the film. But Ifukube's themes certainly took the film's content and enhanced it greatly.

But Edwards didn't want any treats for long-time Godzilla fans, so this is what you'll hear instead of the classic Ifukube G music. Enjoy.

I actually really like Elfman but I get what you're saying Jelly. Honestly the more I listen to the track the more it reminds of classic Desplat. Many of his scores have a little bit of quirk to them which makes them unique. Its just that quirk really doesn't really seem to work in the context of a super serious film like this one. Here's hoping in the context of the film it works a little better.

Sounds like the track suddenly stops, so there's more of the theme to be heard, but yes, I usually van hum Godzillas theme or remember them, but like someone else said, I kind of forgotten it already. At some point it sounds like they want to add the traditional theme in there, but never happens. I'm sure in the context of the film it won't be terrible and the film will still be great! At least the theme isn't GFW bad.

I guess I meant the overall score for G14 can't be as bad as GFW

Well I listened to.the theme with G14 footage, and I kinda like it now
I think it's something new to the character that we'll have to get used to.

Tickets are on sale now through AMC. I'm waiting for the local Wherenberg Theaters... Wanna watch it on their Mega Screen.

Count me as someone who is relieved I did not hear Akira Ifukube music so far. A movie of this tone would benefit better from a score like the one from Return Of Godzilla or Michiru Oshima's scores.

Masaru Sato is the better Godzilla composer anyway 8)
