I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed if this is real. However, I also know that taking soundtracks out of the context of a film is often a mistake, especially before a movie is even released. However, assuming this is real (which it looks like it probably is) I must say I was hoping for a bit more originality from an Oscar winning composer. Its not the worst thing I've heard, but it lacks soul, which also happens to be the biggest fear I have for the movie (lacking soul that is).

I seem to be alone when I say this, but I actually like what we've heard of the ost so far. I doubt that the whole movies music is going to sound like this to. So let's just wait till the full ost samples are out to listen

It's nothing to be upset about. It sounds like it could potentially be used in the opening credits.

I guess I was just hoping for something a bit more memorable or whistle-able (like Giacchino's new Star Trek theme or Zimmer's Man of Steel score). Instead its just kinda bland. I know I'm probably over-analyzing it, and hey maybe the rest of the soundtrack is spot-on brilliant, but from what I've heard so far I guess I have just been hoping for something a bit more memorable or unique.

I'm kinda mixed on it. Really reminds me of old school Sci-fi music from the older movies. In a way it reminds me a lot of the opening music from Signs by James Newton Howard. Which is cool to me by the way, I really like the throw back.
But personally, it just doesn't seem like Desplat to me.

Yeah, who needs to hear the classic Ifukube theme when you've got that magnificent music to listen to, lol.

You wanted new music, well there's your new music.

Silent pictures didn't even have their sound tracks as a part of their trailers. You could say it's tradition.

I like this piece, modern but not generic like most of the Zimmer stable of composers produce.

I believe Desplat did compose a music similar the Ligeti piece used in the trailer, images from the scoring sessions were posted on twitter during the recording of the score. I believe there was a cue sheet that featured the choir.

Soundtracks do leak early, promo copies are sent out a few weeks or a month ahead of their street date. I wouldn't be surprised if one finds its way to the web in the coming weeks. It happened with the last 2 Star Wars films, Star Trek 2009, Skyfall and Super 8.

I think the main difference is most Godzilla themes actually get stuck in my head and I can recall them out of the blue (mostly). This isn't memorable and I've already forgotten it.

That doesn't mean the movie will suck, nor would it be fair to fully say the music is completely off without seeing the movie first. Only a month left! I'm still excited.

If it's the "Godzilla theme" it's really disappointing. If it's like a credits sequence, or a set-up for a military operation or something, it's fine.

It matters what context it's being used in, because it's really just a mediocre piece. Nothing special, nothing bad by any means, either. There are PLENTY of pieces of music used at random moments throughout various Godzilla films that don't stick with me at all. This could just be one of those.

So, it's like an overture?

That's okay then, honestly. There's some potential in there.

When do films usually release samples of their scores? I want to hear what the rest of the ost sounds like.
