I hope you're right, of course, but I still can't shake my skepticism. Regardless, I imagine Godzilla will probably end up somewhere north of $500m WW gross, which is about what I'd say we need for the movie to be successful.

With a budget of 150 million Godzilla is best poised to make back what it can in an easier fashion compared to Spider-man and X-Men. I think the final prediction will be that Godzilla will be financially and critically successful, but I don't think Godzilla is in a position to make 700 million+ in order to be succesful. 300-500 million is a safe bet and would be more than enough to be considered a success.

Assuming the film itself is good, I'll be disappointed if it doesn't get into the $550 million range...

I find everyone's lack of faith disturbing on this forum. It's almost like everyone wants it to fail!
How odd we should be rejoicing that finally a good Godzilla movie is about to come out one that would forever wipe the rotten memory of GINO'98 out forever. I understand that everyone has their own opinion but geez.

This is obviously a little morbid, but I think it's relevant given that X-Men is slated to come out the week after Godzilla, but now there's going to be this sex scandal hanging over the production.

A more scrupulous man would perhaps say shame on all of you for making light of a possible sex abuse case, but I'd be lying if I said that the box office impact wasn't the first thing I thought of when I read that story.
