I thought it lost to Veronica Mars, which made even less?

^Though the comment was snide, it actually would be much appreciated if specific descriptions of any new footage/important plot information from WonderCon was accompanied by appropriate spoiler warnings.

It's been nice to go out to a bar and see some Godzilla trailers on multiple TVs with MLB on. I also liked the "Monster Grand Slam" replay they've been doing with the Godzilla logo next to it.

That is a whole lot more advertising than Pacific Rim ever got last year. I feel confident this movie will be a success. The size of it though remains to be seen.

I've seen the trailer at a lot of local places and bars as well. I can't confirm about any Cable TV airings since I don't really have Cable anymore. Still it is so awesome seeing it in public and seeing other people react to it with excitement. :)

Just to answer the question nobody asked....Is Men's Fitness magazine a place for Godzilla info? NO

ATJ is on the cover, added 15 pounds of muscle for the film and they show his "Godzilla Workout" complete with a picture of:

Nice huh? Guess they didn't know how to Google: "Godzilla"

At least it wasn't:

So Godzilla's biggest box office competition is ussually listed as TASM 2. I feel its going to be DoFP. As a fan of ASM, I often hear it criticized and feel if people didn't connect with it they are less likely to see the sequel in spite of marketing. It should have done better and was better than SM3 but it didnt.

First Class on the other hand didnt do well but I havent seen a single critic of. And by putting the original cast in with the new cast and setting it in the 70s its sequel should do very well. Not to mention it comes out a week after Godzilla, just as its picking up steam, as opposed to 2 weeks before like ASM 2. Anyway its late and my statements probably dont read well.
But check out the latest trailer to DoFP released a couple hours ago. The last Memorial Day film to use this Zeppelin Kashmir variation as its theme was none other than Godzilla 1998.Probably just a coincidence since the song is from the 70s when the film is set, though the riffs sound remarkably closer to the Puff Daddy version from the Godzilla credits. Could it be trying to evoke memories back to the failure of the previous American outing of DoFP's biggest rival with that theme?:

I figure its still relevant to see what the biggest competition is though everyone I talk to, mostly non fans, seem more excited for Godzilla. I've been seeing a ton of trailers for Godzilla televised. Hope it continues to out advertise the competition, but could they have picked a more competitive blockbuster weekend to release if they tried? Sandwiched between the summer's biggest other 2 films.

Oh and it seems if you order a ticket from fandango by Memorial Day you get a free track from the movie:

Very tempted to buy one now and see what tracks are available for download, but my gf is asleep and I think we need to plan out which theater. I guess someone who knows where theyre going can do it and see what tracks are available if any right now.

I DEFINITELY feel like X-Men is going to completely overshadow Godzilla. Kind of like when Universal thought it was a great idea to release Hellboy 2 a week before the Dark Knight.

Godzilla, followed by the biggest X-Men movie ever... great idea. Obviously DOFP won't be another Dark Knight, but its certainly going to steal Godzilla's demographic.

Yeah, it sucks, but realistically we knew going into this that Godzilla was, barring a miracle, probably only going to be the third-biggest movie of May 2014. All the Godzilla fans in the world can't stack up to the fans of Jennifer Lawrence, Hugh Jackman, and superhero movies in general. Would I have preferred a different release date? Sure, but there's nothing we can do about it, aside from going to see the movie as many times as our resources allow and the film's quality justifies. We don't need Godzilla to make a billion dollars, but I think we can still confidently hope for it to do well enough to justify keeping the franchise alive.

Yeah, sure, in a perfect world, maybe. But if the past few years have shown anything, it's that (barring aberrations like The Green Lantern), people are ALWAYS going to show up big-time for superhero movies, regardless of quality. It doesn't hurt that Spiderman is one of the biggest superhero movies of all. The movie can (and probably will) be lackluster, which is probably why they're shoving villains in left and right and spending truckloads of money on marketing, but practically everyone who goes to see Summer blockbusters will be seeing Spiderman, regardless of quality.

Maybe I sound a bit too pessimistic, but that's just my way of doing things. If I'm wrong, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but if I'm right, well, at least I won't be disappointed.

^There've been plenty of superhero films that underperformed and gone at least some way to disprove that people just automatically will show-up for the next superhero film:
-Kick-Ass (and pt 2)
-The Wolverine
-Man of Steel
-Dredd
-Ghost Rider
-The first Captain America film
-The Incredible Hulk
-X-Men First Class
-Watchmen

I'm willing to grant that there are mitigating circumstances to some/many/all(?) of these movies but we also have to be willing to admit that there are other mitigating circumstances that make Iron Man a big draw and Ghost Rider NOT a big draw. In other words, you can't JUST fall back to name-recognition, because the only reason Iron Man/Spider-Man have any drawing power in the first place is because people enjoyed the first films...

I think it'll remain to be seen if people liked the first Amazing Spider-Man enough to draw into the second film, which is what happened from Batman Begins to The Dark Knight, and I'm sure producers are hoping happens from X-Men First Class to Days of Future Past.

Hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but as much as I hate modern audiences and constantly call them stupid and "people are dumb" is basically one of my catchphrases, I at least give people credit enough to think they like what they like and won't JUST go see something based on brand recognition (though I'm willing to stipulate that it IS a part of why people go see something).
