Just saw my first tv spot during the NCAA championship game. Was the one with Godzillas hand at the end. I have a feeling this will be my favorite G movie. Maybe a little early to say that.... But its leaning that way. Can't wait.

On the whole, I've got Jor's back on this one. While I don't think that the numbers games are so important - 1 casualty vs. 1000, 3 months vs. 3 years*, etc. - there's no reason for the filmmakers not to be mindful and respectful of the real-world tragedies of natural disasters, nuclear contamination, and so on. The key is mostly in the depiction. There's a difference between a work that actively questions our position in relation to tragedy, and one that merely exploits tragedy for the sake of profit and controversy. That said, I think we don't need to worry too much about this movie. Edwards has said that they're trying to be mindful of Fukushima and recent tsunamis. I imagine they'll keep a good handle on it.

* Which isn't to say that they shouldn't let some time pass before they seriously start developing works based on real-world tragedies. There are already Hollywood projects underway about the Malaysia Airlines flight. I don't know how badly anyone wants to see one right now.

I'm on Jorzilla on this. I don't think he was advocating anything of the sort, nor would I. But I understand his point of view as to why Japanese would be apprehensive about a project like this. To them, it's too soon.

^ ^^ ^^^ ^^^^ I agree with you all and jor for the most part. I think empathy is all about looking at things through the eyes of others.

1. We took their monster, Godzilla, last time, and screwed him over royally. (yes delvin and emmerich don't repesent all Hollywood filmmakers but they were putting Hollywood's first foot forward after the DeBont SonyZilla fell through, so that's the first strike).

2. We take a cast of mostly Hollywood actors and have them as the main faces seen in a nuclear meltdown in Japan, a few years after Fukishima.

3. We throw a tsunami in for good measure. All in a film with their greatest kaiju as its titular character. [personally I think the Tsunami is a great touch, and works whether related to the disaster or not, but it will obviously appear to berelated]

Questions:

A. Do people who lost loved ones in the disaster have a right to feel offended?
Yes. Of course, If someone reacts to something that affected them or those they care about, they are entitled to have a natural response to it and express that.

B. Is their reaction over the top?
I don't really think so, all they are doing is blogging about it. I don't see anyone picketing or hear about a flood of letters being sent to Gareth or legendary over this.

C. Can Legendary handle this in a respectful way without making it seem like they're trying to exploit the situation for a quick buck?
The way it seems is in the eye of the beholder, but I think without a doubt this crew is capable of it. You're taking the best current tv actor to most in the US now in Cranston, talking about his loss in one of these scenes, and acting it out in a way that can make viewers feel it.
The Tsunami itself looks frightening, and Godzilla has always been an allegory for natural disasters and man playing with natureand experiencing powerful ramifications. I think that's totally different from having a bunch of mocking people running saying ahh its godzilla loook! then getting swept up, or anything making light of it, and they will see understand and relate to it. Fukishima's effects are still being felt not only in Japan but also in coastal america where radiation levels spiked following the meltdown and have remained high. http://www.infowars.com/california-slam ... radiation/

This isn't just a Japanese problem, and as Godzilla was an important message to the World about the dangers of nuclear testing,I think its good that this is done right and reminds people worldwide to be cautious when tampering with nature. Though mostly I just hope its a great film

Not sure if this is legit or not, but I went to see if I could buy tickets yet and my theater lists Godzilla as being 100 minutes long.

Not sure why this is such a mystery and they don't come out and list the running time. I do recall a quote from Edwards saying you will be in the theater for two hours.

1 hour and 40 minutes seems a little short for a character driven movie.

Hey what Surround Sound is considered the best in theaters nowadays?

SDDS vs. Dolby Atmos vs. Datasat?

(Datasat is what DTS is now)

I know this movie uses the full Atmos tracking but I know people still have their preferences. Anybody have a clue?

The sea rose as a wall of sharp spines sliced thru the surface. The water boiled and churned as fish of all species floated on their sides, dead. Godzilla, the demon god had emerged.
