My shipment came in from RightStuf today, I had preordered all 3 titles in March. To my surprise (and probably others) Hedorah and Gigan are the international versions (English title cards and credits)!

The video quality looks fantastic though. Did you have to adjust the black levels on your screen at all?

Those screenshots look fantastic. I'm putting my DVDs up for sale before these hit now that I know they aren't Toho prints. Could we get some more screen shots for Hedorah and the Sea Monster?

So Hedora and Gigan are literally THE EXACT SAME THING we already got from Sony, just in HD? God damn it. Inferior Toho masters or not, I was actually hoping to get a hold of straight Japanese versions of these films - original titles and all - without having to purchase the more expensive Toho blu-rays. The only reason I was looking forward to these, poof, gone.

Those screencaps are stunning. Keep 'em coming. I'm extremely happy we're getting these transfers......too bad Kraken didn't nab SOG and MG74 as well.

And last but not least are the Hedorah screencaps. I'm not sure if the Tristar release subtitled any of the Japanese on-screen text, but there are subtitles for them on this BD (I posted one example). The subtitles are not burned in (someone on FB mentioned that Section23 had a tendency to burn-in the subs on their anime releases). There are two sub tracks for each BD. One is for the Japanese version, and one is for the English version for the on-screen text. Another subtle thing that I noticed that pleases me is that the Japanese trailers are subtitled (agian, the subs are not burned in). The on-screen text and spoken words are both subtitled in the trailers. Overall, I think these releases are a vast upgrade over the Tristar releases. I know some people were hoping for Japanese versions instead of international versions, but for what these are being charged, I think you'd be silly not to upgrade

I am glad for the releases, but I can understand the diasppointment of some as well. These are literally the same as Sony's DVD's from 2004, now just in HD. Many were hoping for something different to make the purchase more worthwhile. I've had this argument many times, but honestly when I watch a DVD upscaled on my HDTV I notice little to no difference between it, and a BD. In fact I've had friends ask on more than one occasion "if" the film I was wathcing was on Blu, and I said no, because the quality was so good they couldn't tell. I'm sure I'll pick these up eventually, but there is no hurry, and if they are in short supply and I miss out, no big deal, its not like they have the original american theatrical releases they advertise.

I can't say I am disappointed since I got no clue what to expect. I'm just disappointed mine hasn't arrived yet.

The DVD transfers were stunning, so these should really be something (esp. Sea Monster)! Very happy we're not getting sub-par Toho transfers.
