We should all rank the designs ( maybe in a new thread ) ...

I've come to a disturbing, yet profound conclusion the older I get...Godzilla as a character and an idea is vastly superior then any of the films he's been in.

I LOVE the Showa films, but they exist in my childhood now as fond memories...not great films. The Heisei series was fun to discover as teenager. I loved going to chinatown and buying bootlegs filmed off the screen just to see "new" Godzilla films, but they now seem needlessly complicated and way too talky and boring. The Millennium films leave me largely cold. GMK is an interesting weird aside, but the rest all seem by the numbers. Final Wars is almost unwatchable because Godzilla has this horrible rat face design.

I think all that goes into my thinking towards the LegendGoji design. It's the first Proper Godzilla to my adult eyes. Now I fully admit I'm viewing the series and this movie from an older adult who find it hard to watch the older movies all the way through now, save for a few...

He's basically saying "I like the character, but the movies aren't very good."

That's same stuff Devlin and Emmerich were saying before they raped Godzilla in 1998.

Ebirah, I would try quoting your post, but I'm pretty sure it's impossible to erase all of the quotes you put in it in a quick enough time, so I'll just reply like this.

What's wrong with saying that it's their opinion? I'm simply stating that what they think of the new design isn't fact. Do you want me to curse them out and tell them why they're "wrong"? Do you really crave conflict that much?

And if I'm not mistaken, the only time I ever even came close to trying to be condescending towards others is when I find them to be extremely annoying, or find them believing that what they're saying is fact and that they represent the majority of the fandom. Other than that, I'm not trying, nor do I want to come off as sounding condescending.

So simply because I want to remind people about the difference of opinions, that means that them being dissenting of the new design "bothers me"? If that were true, then I could easily say that people approving of the design bothers you, seeing as you really seem uncomfortable whenever you reply to someone speaking positively of the new Goji. I'm not saying that that's what you actually think, just that it's how you're coming off as.

Cranston just gave a Godzilla shout-out on Colbert while promoting his play about Lyndon B. Johnson, saying that the character was larger than life, the "Godzilla of presidents," kinda winking to the audience.

I think it's kind of sickening how often I see this...

"I don't really like the new design. Isn't working for me."

"It's SERIOUS! To me it looks like one of the best! What do you want, the Son of Godzilla suit!? My god, what a horror show that was! That's probably what you want!"

I'm sorry, what makes you think that, just because I don't like this design, I someone prefer the 1967 suit? How old are the people who say stuff like this?

And now we have people defending the design and this new film in general by dumping on the entire Toho-produced Godzilla series the same way Devlin and Emmerich did in 1998. It's mind blowing.

^I don't think the arms will just dangle.

As for basing it on a bear, I don't know why THAT is a bad idea in and of itself. Godzilla's been based on a Trex, a reptile, an amphibian, a feline, and a dozen other little tweaks that made him like more or less or something kinda sorta like any number of a variety of animals (including an otter), why is a bear such a terrible thing?

What I really think is throwing people with this design, more than ANYTHING else, is the texture. It's the biggest departure of the design compared to more traditional designs, and if it were more in line with traditional texturing, I honestly don't think there'd be LENGTHY discussions on the design...

Sooooo... Its stated somewhere that Godzilla will just have his arm dangle the entire film? If so, show me this article. Complaining about that before we get to watch any scenes in length is just crazy. Godzillas arms most likely won't dangle during his fighting scenes. Everything I've seen SO FAR have been fine
