I love this design. I like to look at it this way.. LegendGogi looks like Godzilla as if he were crafted by someone who had never seen any of the older movies. The only thing they were told was the basic architecture of what makes Godzilla Godzilla. Thus we have a fresh and different interpretation of what we can all agree on is the Big G.

By comparison, GINO looked like he was designed by someone who happened to be deaf when they were told what Godzilla should be roughly comprised of.

I can understand a lot of the complaints about this new design except one...how the heck does it look like Gamera??! I've heard this complaint a few times now and I simply don't understand it.

The leathery skin also seems like Gamera in a way.

Looking at pictures of the figures versus that final shot in the trailer, I think a number of the toys have undersized heads. And funky head sizes are often a problem in the collecting hobby. One thing I do not like on the BearGoji is the way his tail tapers so finely, as it ends up look fragile for the last bit.

Match 3 is a style of game like Bejeweled or Candy Crush.

Godzilla smashes stuff.

Smash kind of rhymes with match.

So I have the feeling that the in game model of Godzilla in that mobile game is the most accurate depiction of the new Godzilla that we've seen besides the trailers.

Two photos @ Total Film I hadn't seen before. Look to be scenes filmed in Nanaimo.
Easy to get an idea of how massive Godzilla actually will be.

I really don't hate or dislike any Godzilla design (at least official ones) -- even Zilla. I feel like that as long as the film is enjoyable and good, the design shouldn't really matter unless the film somehow hinges on it. I don't care for the 1998 film, but I like the Zilla design as much as any other Godzilla design just because of how abstract it is compared to traditional Godzilla designs.

This new Godzilla design is all right. I think my only gripe is that his eyes are a little too small and his body is too large... also, I'm not quite a fan of the skin texture either. I thought I remembered reading somewhere that the charcoal black color of Godzilla and his skin texture were supposed to be reminiscent of heavy radiation scarring. I get the feeling from this design that it's supposed to impose a frightening image, but it feels almost tacky. It also doesn't really help that Edwards seems to be pushing that the theme of the original film was "man tampering with nature" when in reality, it was much more about the atomic bombings of Japan, the firebombings of Japan, the U.S. occupation and how the Japanese view the nature of nuclear weaponry use and how it should have been handled. The whole "tampering with nature" thing was just a by-product, not the main theme. And that theme feels lost on this Godzilla -- at least, aesthetically. He doesn't really seem to embody nuclear allegories so much as he's just designed around the idea of a natural disaster... which wasn't an idea until the Heisei~Millennium series.

I don't know about everyone else, but I kinda like it that they're being real "hush hush" on the Mutos. Honestly, I was willing to wait until I saw the movie to fully see what Godzilla himself looked like. But considering the huge promotion and merchandising around this film, it'd be hard to do that. I mean, this is Godzilla, he's an international icon. So I can't complain.

Now, today alone I ave come across three items on Facebook. The big ass 3 foot Godzilla toy with the kid on the cover, who I as a grown ass man will replace when I purchase that figure 8) , the upcoming book with I can't wait to get my hands on, and the NECA figure which is a must have, as it seems like NECA is preparing to go head to head with SH Monster Arts. They're really starting to turn it up on the merchandising and promotion of this film, and I LOVE IT!!! I only hope that they don't go overboard with it, kind of like what "X-Men: Days of Future Past" is doing, and burn everyone out before the film gets here. Can't wait though... Can't... Friggin... WAIT!!!!!! Ever since I was a kid, I've wanted to see en epic, well done, Godzilla movie on screen, to where I can unleash my full kaiju fan nerd without worrying about what others thought! hahahaha

Edit: I see everyone is also on the subject of the design, so I'll put my 2 cents in. I LOVE this design, he has a classic enough look where you can look at him and go "oh yeah, that's Godzilla." yet at the same time, they've updated him and changed him enough to tune him up for a new movie. I look at it kind of like how Godzilla had a pretty different makeover going from the Heisei films to Godzilla 2000. Now, I'll say this, I cannot STAND this obsession with his feet. I swear to Godzilla, some fans will find ANYTHING to cry about. Having said that, when I saw the imaged of the NECA figure today, I did get an impression of weird proportions with him. He's got this huge body, large stubby legs, and kind of a small head. But it doesn't bother me enough to make me complain, I still think it's an awesome design. Maybe those photos don't do it justice, because it seems that in all the little stills and photos we've had, that it works pretty well. Not a design that's my absolute favorite, but definitely one that I'm all in on.

I picked up the Giant Godzilla after work and it's not that great, but it's good for size. It kind of looks like they took a smaller figure and upscaled it in a computer because it really is not detailed enough.

Also whoever came up with the Gamera comment in genius. It kind of encapsulates the overall shape of the head on profile and skin texture very nicely.
