Destroy All Monsters is correct. Well, out of all the Godzilla movies from the Showa Era that I grew up watching, DAM was my favorite Godzilla movie to watch during that time. I know there has been some discussion on here about liking or disliking DAM, but I loved it as a kid. Now, while I have gotten older, and became more appreciative about other Godzilla movies and such, this movie will always have that nostalgic feeling with me. This was also the first film that introduced my favorite Godzilla suit at the time for many, many years. This G movie had it all.
King Ghidorah required ALOT of wire work obviously. In these images, you'll be able to see some of the wires that were used to bring KG to life. (wires attached to the heads and wings)
Puppets anyone? Manda and a funny looking Baragon puppet?
Nice close-up KG.
The only time you'll see the FULL Baragon suit in DAM. From what i've read over the years, the Baragon suit wasn't available for use to film DAM, as it was loaned out to Tsuburaya Productions for an Ultraman episode I think. (or the suit was just in bad shape that it couldn't be used) That's why we instead get Gorosaurus coming through the ground at the base of the Arc de Triomphe and destroying it in the process. The funny thing is, in the scene where the radio (or TV) announcer is telling which monster is destroying each city around the world, Baragon's part was never corrected to Gorosaurus. It still had Baragon destroying Paris.
One of my favorite parts of DAM. Godzilla, Manda, Rodan, (and Mothra's) attack on Tokyo.
Godzilla and his crew awaiting the Kilaaks/Kiraku attack. Notice the three stationary monster puppets to the right. One is Manda, while the other two I guess are supposed to be Baragon and Varan? (although you couldn't tell from looking at them)
No big thing really, but here, you can see that one of Godzilla's spines on his back is bent, instead of standing up straight.
The Varan suit. Which was deemed pretty much unusable for action scenes in DAM.
Never knew for many, many, many years that was Haruo Nakajima (suit actor for Godzilla) sitting prominently in the forground.
The seam on the back of the Rodan suit (where the actor gets in and out of) is clearly visible in these shots.
Another close-up of KG.
Damn that's gotta hurt. Having Godzilla stomp down on your neck like that. Never noticed the blood squirting out of KG's mouth.
Peek-a-boo.
Holey moley Anguirus. I wonder which was worse for suit acting? Standing up or walking on all fours in those hot suits?
My favorite Godzilla suit as a kid. To me, this was THE Showa Era Godzilla suit for a long time. It's too bad this suit turned out to be in such bad shape during the filming of Godzilla vs. Gigan 4-5 years later.
