I'd be happy with any other monsters, but I would REALLY love to see what they could do with Rodan I've always wanted to see a real proper fight between him and Godzilla, to the point where I almost wish that Mothra and Ghidorah would have stayed away in GTTHM so they could beat the crap out of eachother more.

I really like the idea of using new monsters instead of recycling the old ones. I've always felt like Toho was a little lazy when they would use the same monsters over and over.

I realize I'm in the minority here but I look forward to seeing more MUTOs.

If they really are planning on using other Toho monsters in any eventual sequels, and the whole "they wanted to use Ghidorah but decided to save him for later" thing is true, I think it was a good decision. For an origin kind of story Godzilla himself needs a lot of focus and should come off as the most powerful, and I think, for most of us fans, we want monsters like Ghidorah, MechaGodzilla, Mothra, etc. to rival or even outmatch (temporarily, until their inevitable defeat at the end) Godzilla himself, plus it just plain doesn't hurt to have some good old-fashioned buildup to them.

I think had the monster behaved and been treated like the Godzilla we all love, the redesign for the 98 film wouldn't have been received as poorly by the fans. It was just one more thing to put on top of the hate sundae. I mean the Godzilla 2000 design is a fairly radical departure itself, but nobody ever questioned that it was Godzilla and fans for the most part accepted the new look.

And that is what the Legendary film needs to strive for. There were plenty of Toho designs for the creature that I didn't particularly care for (Son of Godzilla comes to mind) but it is all about presenting Godzilla the character in a way that most of us will recognize, accept, and adore. Does he have a nuclear blast shoot out of his mouth? Is he a destructive force of nature? Is he larger than life? Is he nearly indestructible? Is he the biggest BA MOFO on the planet? To be honest, I think they are striving to do that and at the very least, they have the best intentions with this film. Whether or not it works out is something we'll just have to wait and see.

^Mothra is the star of two of the very best kaiju films of all time (Mothra '61 and Mothra vs. Godzilla). I still love Mothra, despite the fact that the character has been overused and never well since the '60s. I'm all for Mothra being returned to her former glory.

For the sake of not having anything better to do, here's my idea of what four other monsters they'd get the rights to:

Mothra
King Ghidorah
Mechagodzilla

... time has shown them to be the most popular, and:

Rodan

Though considered B-squad in Japan (as opposed to the A-squad of the previous three) I think he's more in the consciousness of the American casual fans. I notice that whenever Godzilla series monsters are referenced in books/TV/movies it's always Mothra and Rodan (and Gamera, who most probably don't realize is of a rival company).

Yes, no doubt that Mothra was in two of the BEST kaiju movies ever made, but as you said, she's suffered from overkill after that. I guess I would just be content in seeing another kaiju OTHER than her in the (hopeful) sequel. I do like the fact that they got rights to four other monsters though. (IF, that's really true) I'd love to see either King Ghidorah or Gigan in the sequel.

I'm with Russ. I hope Mothra doesn't fly in this series.
I'm fine with new opponents. I wouldn't mind seeing Rodan return.

I would be totally on board with Rodan, Mothra and King Ghidorah. That would mirror the Golden Age of Kaiju Films quite nicely. Plus they are the monsters which have the most US exposure.

Man, it wouldn't be Godzilla without a recognizable foe. Mothra + some new enemy.

Or give Mothra her own feature. Mothra can totes work.

One reason I don't won't Mothra in the series is that we have arthropods appearing in this film.
Many other types of life or artificial life I would rather have explored as foes than have another flying insectoid.

Anyway here is a funny...Godzilla-movies at it again.
