I understand that this new film will in some way touch on Godzilla's roots, and the interview with the Director of Photography describes utilizing actual vintage camera lenses from the mid-50's in order to achieve a certain classic look, so a flashback of some sort will most likely happen in the film. Some have mentioned either 'Gojira' as a reference or just having the monster's first recorded appearance/attack take place sometime on the 1950's with newly done footage. Personally, I think it would be cool if they have scene where one of the main characters gets up to speed on Godzilla by watching "archive material" from his '54 Tokyo attack, (new CGI scenes digitally degraded to resemble old newsreel footage), and have the iconic voiceover narration from Raymond Burr's opening scene monologue from the American version of Godzilla. That would be a very clever way to touch on the original without getting too melancholy or too cutesy. I dunno. Whatta you guys think?

I agree, the old newsreel shtick has been done before, but folks who come to see this film that are new to the Godzilla world won't know this. Fans would get the reference almost right away, but everyone else would just see it as a sort of expositional scene (and it would serve that purpose as well as being a nod to fans), but nothing more to Godzilla noobs. I just think it would be a really cool way to work in a snippit from the original film, but in such a way that would work within the confines of the script, instead of just being a gratuitous "nudge-nudge, wink-wink" moment. Heck, they could incorporate the whole secrecy/cover-up angle to even include this by informing the person being shown the footage that he/she is one of only a handful of people to have ever watched it because although the newsreel was produced for US theatrical distribution, the government siezed it in order to prevent a nationwide panic, etc. I secretly just relish the thought of hearing Burr's moving narration on the big screen.

A snippet of that scene was shown on the Canadian Entertainment Tonight a couple of weeks ago.

Does anyone know in general, how far in advance you can buy movie tickets to a film? I want to see this as soon as possible in Imax.

That makes sense. I already have my theater of choice picked out so I'll be monitoring closer to release. I hope/don't hope they pull what they did at Pacific Rim and have a 5pm showing announced days before release. I want to be a first in the theater, not someone waiting outside watching other people walk out with smiles on their face.

My plan is to go to the early bird show on Friday, eat lunch and watch it again.
They have a new XD theater in Lexington I plan on checking out.

Like Snowden, I have already arranged for a half day off for Thursday 5/15 (so that I can't get hit with stay over OT) and I took off all day Friday. I am going the local theater for the sneak premier Thursday (both showings actually, if 2 are offered), then taking the wife, best friend and his family up to the nearby IMAX-eqipped 3D theater for the Friday evening opening. It will be a BIG G holiday for me, too! Unless the film stinks, of course. If that's the case then I'll head home after the first premier in tears, and that'll be the end of that. It's shaping up to be anything but stinky from the looks of things so far, though!

Meh. I can wait until Saturday when I can drive out to Tulsa and see it on the Imax. That is unless it's garbage, then I'll just see it in the local theater which is actually almost as good.
