Watched Highlander. I haven't watched it in a LONG time. My mom was obsessed with the franchise/tv series when I was a kid, but man is this movie bad. Though I kind of like it in a so bad it's good kind of way. Kurgen is magnificently weird. The soundtrack is pretty great.

The Godfather III - My god, I know people have said this movie is bad, and for years I have been told it is bad, and have read it is bad, but I could not believe they were all actually right. This movie sucked!! The biggest atrocity is that it was just down right boring. It did not have any of the cinematography of the first two. None of the character development. In fact, Mary was about as interesting of a character as a brick wall. Sam Witwicky had far more development in the first Bayformers movie than she had in this movie, making the ending of the movie completely emotionless as you don't give a crap about her to care. Vincent was a poor imitation for Michael too as the movie never gave us a reason to care about him either. Even Michael himself was vastly out of character and it just felt like Al Pacino phoned the performance in. Man this movie sucked ass and the plot just did not make sense. What the hell was the entire point of the Vatican stuff? Nothing ever came out of it. Overall, I give this movie a 2/10 and that is because of the last half hour of the movie during the opera house.

Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure - I can say that at least it was better than Godfather III. The movie had some good laughs to it and I did like the presentation at the end. However, the first 30 minutes were boring as all hell. George Carlin was awesome though. I'll give it a 5/10 as it was a fun little rip off of Doctor Who.

Saboteur: This is the first Hitchcock movie out of the set I have seen that I did not actually care for all that much. It wasn't bad by any means, but it wasn't all that great either. In fact, I felt like this movie was meant to be a beta version of "North by Northwest." The acting was pretty good, as was the party scene, but I did not really care for the characters (again though, I didn't hate them either). I give it a 6/10, which is still pretty good even for being the weakest Hitchcock movie thus far.

Safety Not Guaranteed - I liked this movie, until the end, which made me like it a LOT.

The Devil's Double - Dominic Cooper is great in the dual role of Uday Hussein/Latif, but the movie only barely hangs together. If you appreciate a really good bit of acting, that's really the only reason to see this.

Hisss - pretty terrible. The effects are bad, and it's only minor things here and there that keep this from feeling like a bad SyFy film.

Saving Mr Banks - WOW!! This movie was down right terrific. I went in expecting a simple story about the filming of Mary Poppins and Disney's battle with the author and came out with a complex well developed story that was much bigger than anticipated. Tom Hanks was incredible as Disney and it was interesting to see a movie that featured the life of Disney than just his creations. Thompson was also amazing as Travers as was Giamatti as her limo driver. The movie knew when to add comedy to the drama and it did it exceptionally well. This is by far one of the best movies of 2013 and it is a shame it has been snubbed of almost any award nominations. This movie gets a great 9/10.

Winnebago Man - a documentary about this guy (NSFW language):

who was basically one of the world's first viral video "stars". Before there was Youtube even.

Pretty interesting and funny.

Septien - I'm not sure. It starts off as this piece of independent garbage. All the brutal tropes of independent trash...then towards the end, some religious dude shows up out of nowhere and stuff gets CRAZY with the main characters battling their inner demons. But by that point, the movie hos brought up and dropped a whole bunch of other plot threads and ideas and we no longer really care.

Scary or Die - Ever see this episode of ATHF?

Ever wonder what it would be like if someone did a 30-minute segment of a horror anthology dedicated to this premise? Wonder no more. This is pretty bad, but if you like cheesy, terrible horror, it's mildly entertaining.

The Beaver - Not sure why this was so reviled upon release. Maybe because Mel Gibson is a maniac, maybe because it was horribly marketed, but it's a very moving look at depression. I liked it a lot.

Jeff Who Lives at Home - for an idea of this film's camera work, watch this video:

I kid you not, there are THAT many quick closeups.

Satan's Little Helper - Some dumbass kid thinks he's Satan's minion and thinks Satan walks among them, so he helps a murderer kill people. If you can roll with a premise like that, you'll have some fun. Not a GOOD movie by any means, but I had fun.

Metallica: Through the Never - It's a good concert movie with some neat visuals mixed in. Overall it retreats away from the story of the roadie a little too often, as I have plenty of Metallica concert videos and wanted something a little more unique, but at 90 minutes, it's a brisk, fun ride.

My g/f is sick so I got the joy of watching Frankenfish and A Haunting in Connecticut II: Georgia (don't ask, it didn't make sense to me either) and both ere god damned awful. Bad CGI, poor acting, stupid jump scares that are predictable, and they were just boring. Both movies get a 2/10 and that is because I feel like being generous. Well, at least Frankenfish had some cool death scenes.

Jesus. That was terrible. I'm still compelled to keep watching these things though.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla and Terror of Mechagodzilla. The '70s were a groovy time, man. I mean, I didn't experience them first hand, but one can assume.

So I actually got out to the theater this weekend and saw 'Lone Survivor' ... The third act added a bunch of fictional (and nonsensical) action scenes which completely undermined the true story aspects.. It was hard not to draw comparisons to 'Black Hawk Down' which was a much better adaptation that didn't alter the story for entertainment purposes. So stick with the book on Lone Survivor.

Howl's Moving Castle

A delight, and one of those couple of foreign films I prefer dubbed. The English language version is phenomenal. In the special features Miyazaki himself gushes about it.

The Counselor - AWFUL. Overly verbose, filled to the gills with dialogue that rings entirely untrue, a complete and utter waste of the talent featured both in front of and behind the camera.

It's a Disaster - not bad. A group of friends get together for Couples Brunch when a series of attacks breaks out in several cities and they are forced to be stuck in their house....they realize that pretty much all of them have slept with each other and it becomes like an airing of grievances. Darkly humorous.

Escape Plan - This was alright. I had some issues with the script at certain points, but I found this a more enjoyable Stallone/Schwarzenegger vehicle than The Expendables (1 or 2).

So i watched "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane" on Netflix the other night... i remember hearing great things about this and then the distributor that picked it up from the festival circuit hit financial difficulties and it sat on the shelf for 7 years... so i was finally happy to get the chance to see it. Other than the positive buzz, my hopes were high because the director (Jonathon Levine) was also responsible for 'The Wackness', '50/50' and 'Warm Bodies'.. i also was looking forward to seeing Whitney Able (Monsters) in another role, and the casting of Amber Heard looked perfect.... so overall, i guess it was good, but i really don't care for the 'high school slasher' genre, even less now that i'm a parent.. so i really couldnt say that i enjoyed it. I did think Amber Heard did great ( if this film had been properly distributed in the US it could have been a defining role for her) and it was interesting to see Whitney Able in a different role. The cinematography has a unique look to it that i thought elevated the film as well.

So the TLDR version: I appreciate a lot of things in this movie, but I'm not a genre fan, so i wouldn't watch it again, but if you don't mind high school slashers, then i imagine you'd enjoy it.

Castle in the Sky

Doctors should prescribe this movie instead of antidepressants.

Paid $40 for the Hong Kong Blu-Ray (the US version has major subtitle problems). Worth it!

^They've done a pretty stellar job on all the other releases, but yeah: they should go back, fix the problem, and offer a replacement program.

I never read anything of the book outside of the last few chapters, but I had no problem following Ender's Game.

The Lego Movie: Go into the movie with your brain ready to just watch Legos on the big screen and you will be fine. This movie is awesome as it is funny, enjoyable, and rips on almost everything that is currently going on in the world. It mocks tired cliches and has fun with it. The last portion of the movie is shocking and clever, possibly making this the best animated movie of the year already. Getting to see some Legos I used to play with as a kid was pretty awesome too. I cannot say much more without giving away spoilers, so I'll leave it here with a great 8/10 stars.
