The costumes, and sentinel, look horrible IMO. Oh well.

X-Men was my favorite comic franchise when I was a kid. But, admittedly, I'm getting kinda old, and thus I'm very old-school in what I'm looking for in my comic book movies. It sucks... when I was younger, the special effects weren't refined enough to make super hero movies actually look good. Now they can, but there's all sorts of alternate realities and reimaginings that they're pulling elements from, or directors just wanting to "do their own thing" with things that are dear to me; stuff that just is a major disappointment to a purist like me. Quicksilver... just horrible. Everything about the new Spiderman movie... not my cup of tea.

Rupert Wyatt, his star rising after a successful 'Planet of the Apes' reboot, has fallen out of films at almost every studio (an 'Apes' sequel at Fox, 'The Equalizer' at Sony) as the pressure of working in today's Hollywood takes its toll: "Studios don't necessarily want an auteur who's going to try and reinvent the franchise."

The reality here is that Fox is trying to build with X-Men what Marvel has with the MCU, and they're not just gonna let a director come in and do whatever he wants. It's all gotta fit into this X-Men film universe they're building.

I just hope Fox has Henry Jackman back for the Apocalypse score because Ottman flat out sucks.

According to Wiki and IMDb, it's Ottman.

Ottman's X-Men suite is one of the best superhero themes. It was great to hear it again in DOFP.

But it's it just a retooled version of Michael Kamen's theme from the first movie?

^ I don't know if I hear it, or if I think I hear it because I'm looking for it. They seem very different to me. That said though I really love Kamen's score for the first film.

I for one love that Xavier by the time the next movie rolls around should basically be a hundred years old, but he'll be McAvoy. It gives the movies a somewhat looser continuity and allows me to just consider them each separate X adventures. Also, I feel like that whole looser continuity notion is allowing them to make these films a bit more complete unto themselves and leave fewer threads dangling. The amount of unanswered questions hanging after Civil War was actually frustrating for me, and I'm starting to turn quite a bit on the MCU because of each films inability to be a story unto itself.
