The possibility of Godzilla melting down would motivate the humans to deal with the attacking Mutos, or at least try to move the conflict into the water to cool Godzilla's body. So, to protect their own interests, Godzilla may require human help in his battle against the Mutos to prevent the larger disaster of his meltdown. Nod to Godzilla vs. Destroyah.

Wow...I sincerely hope this pans out to be how the movie goes down. Just hol-eeee "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!". I couldn't ask for more..really clever way to make the mutos more dangerous than Godzilla himself without getting cutesy whatsoever.

So Godzilla can't be on land too long? He needs to periodically return to the ocean to cool down? That's what it sounds like to me.

Maybe we should make a thread discussing THIS specific Godzilla. His biology, temperament, powers, etc.

That's a really interesting concept- aren't some nuclear reactors cooled by sea water?

I think it would be a cool idea for Godzilla to "vent" occasionally through the supposed gills after a lot of activity. Ichi the killer style.

Also... Anyone else think that the storm in the trailer looks weird and that it may be conjured by the mutos? There's nothing like that in the script, but they do seem to have electrical powers... And the storm that we saw didn't really look natural.

Thoughts?

... so, Godzilla's nuclear breath is actually him 'venting' (being a weapon is a side-effect) and the MUTO's have the power to stunt this, leading to possible meltdown?

Because that sounds awesome.

As a matter of fact, everything sounds awesome.

It would lend a grandiose aspect to the film if the Mutos or Godzilla could affect atmospheric conditions. I wonder how much man's interference has affected the original nature of Godzilla and the Mutos, if both are meant to be creatures that are naturally "nuclear"? Have our nuclear detonations and power plant accidents upset their natural balance? I mention this in more detail over in the Godzilla biology thread. We would want to know how such creatures employed nuclear energy so that we could improve our weapons and energy sources. But human curiosity and hubris would be the cause of upsetting what had been an ancient natural balance, threatening life on our planet should Godzilla melt down. So not only our nuclear weapons, but our nuclear power sources could be presented as disruptive to Nature, possibly balanced by Godzilla at the film's end? That could be an interesting way to deal with the themes raised by the original (1954) and several later films (1984, 1995).

So as I asked before, Snow are there any references in the script to any other possible MUTOS(kaiju) besides these? I mean in off hand talk?

Well to me the idea that his atomic breath serves a dual purpose is fresh AND the thought that he needs to return to the ocean for periods of time allow for the humans to actually plan. Like a hurricane they would have a general reference point on how long they need to evacuate. Godzilla then would be less apt to venture too far inland because perhaps the longer he goes without cooling down the more uncomfortable he gets and the more powerful as well, and maybe atomic breath venting is only a short term solution, so maybe water cooling is required.

That could lead to ideas later in another film set down the road where costal cities become ghost towns to avoid his reach...only to find that he actually is not in danger of melt a down and just keeps getting more and more pissed...

I do like it though, a fresh and plausible spin on his biology AND a simple reason he leaves after battle....it's the only thing that calms him down.
You must show no mercy, nor have any belief whatsoever in how others judge you... for your greatness will silence them all!
