The Man Who Knew Too Much - Another Hitchcock movie and another great one at that. I thought it had a great build up, the pacing was well done, and it went in directions I did not see coming. The last bits of the movie were really all out suspense, especially during the concert, which was amazingly done. The entire set up was just gorgeous. As usual, Stewart's performance was nothing short of brilliance and it is a shame I am out of Hitchcock movies that star him now, but I guess that is just as well. I give this movie a nice big 9/10.

Yes to everything. Even with lower expectations I was shocked. Even some of the costuming and styling is bad. Sofia Coppola is not a good actress in this film. The story is rough. The tone is different. Its a mess.

The tonal shift is the worst thing for me...I think the biggest reason the film wasn't immediately reviled upon release is the 15 year gap. It makes a lot of the inconsistencies and irritating things less noticeable when you haven't just recently watched the first two films. Though that said, it isn't a standalone film in the least. If you don't know the other two films, you're absolutely lost when it comes to part 3.

I'll say this for "Godfather 3": The story of Michael's crimes coming back to haunt him needed to be told. He went from clean-cut war hero to ruthless crime lord who went so far as to have his brother iced. He deserved to lose the one thing he loved more than anything. I'm just sorry that the story wasn't told better.

Red Dust (1932) with Clark Gable and Jean Harlow. Clark heads a rubber plantation and starts to get grabby with his engineer's wife. It's light dramedy, but quite enjoyable.

Zatoichi and the Chess Expert

This is (another) real good one. Instead of the standard 'Zatoichi goes to a place with bad guys, conflict ensues' this one follows Zatoichi on something of a road trip, with four main subplots going. Near the end some of these plots begin to tie together and Zatoichi's famous swordplay comes into play. The title comes from a chess (Shogi, actually) playing samurai who becomes Ichi's companion. Their frequent chess games mirror their relationship to one another, one of the really cool details of this films.

Another cool detail: after film after film of Zatoichi skills and luck becoming more and more superhuman this film has a few instances of how normal bad luck would interfere with Ichi shenanigans! He even loses one of his famous trick dice game!

Blue Jasmine - tripe. Unbearable.

Enough Said - not bad actually. You wouldn't think Julia Louis-Dreyfus and James Gandolfini would have ANY chemistry, but they really do. Pretty fun and funny.

In a World... - I was all excited for a satirical type of movie that was different and new and unique and instead it's kind of a generic rom-com type of dramady thing. Not bad, but disappointing.

The Wolverine-As always I enjoy any movie by marvel. This movie had alot of action an extremely unexpected ending, as well as a good(not great or better) story. However it felt too fast. The whole movie felt more like 30minutes rather than an hour.

Isn't that a good thing though? You want a movie to fly by, not feel like its length.

I thought The Wolverine was plenty long enough. Not like it dragged (at least not TOO much) or anything, but it felt like a very adequate length.

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

Watched one of my favorite GDT films: The Devil's Backbone. His best film? Better than Pan, or second best?

The Spectacular Now - so AWFUL. Holy crap. I hated this thing. It's so spectacularly unrealistic in its character portrayals and actions and so up its own a$$ with pontificating and 'wisdom' spouted from the mouths of 18 year old douchebags...there's a stretch of about 20-30 minutes in the middle that is just absolutely INFURIATING in its portrayal of high school seniors:

A kid breaks up with his girlfriend, they try to be friends kinda but she and he have this very adult conversation about how she thinks there's no future with him because he can't commit and doesn't have his life figured out.
Then this girl's new boyfriend goes to confront him about hanging out with the girl and instead they have a deep conversation about making her laugh.
Then this kid sleeps with his new girlfriend (who up to the point she started dating him had never been kissed), and she doesn't tell him until MUCH later that she loves him AND he goes and starts dancing at prom with his old girlfriend instead of his new girlfriend who he JUST slept with and she's fine with it.

EVERYONE in this movie acts like an adult, except when it's convenient for them not to do so, like when our main douchebag character starts drinking and driving.

Paul- That movie itself was good. Funny as well.

Big @$$ Spider- That was actually less funny and more interesting. I actually now wonder how big that spider would've gotten if it was never killed.

Watchmen-...I didnt finish it yet just started.

I finally finished Watchmen...that was the most bad-ass, epic, super hero film I've ever seen...well not ever because the Avengers still exists. But wow. And it's actually the first film I've seen in a while where they wern't afraid to make the movie too long. I can't even put it in words.

Next On My List:
Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters...not finished watching yet.

Recently watched two excellent movies, Captain Phillips and The Call. Both were riveting and realistic portrayals of real events.

Captain Phillips tells the story of the 2009 hijacking and subsequent hostage taking of the captain of the Maersk Alabama. Somali pirates make it through the ship's security due to a weak link in the system. Tom Hanks is truly at his best as he portrays the captain.

The Call stars Halle Berry as a 9-1-1 operator who gets connected with a young girl who has been kidnapped and is in the trunk of a car. Though at times The Call can be predictable, it is still a great adventure. I don't want to spoil it so that's all I can say. Halle Berry is fantastic.

Captain Phillips - I was really taken aback by how much I liked this. Tom Hanks is firing on all cylinders and the movie is just really good. I thought it would be good but had no idea it would be THIS good.

Rush - another great one. The rivalry between the two leads is compelling without being overly dramatized. And the sense of dread hanging over the proceedings is palpable and riveting.

A Single Shot - bad. Disappointing because I love Sam Rockwell but this is just dull and lifeless and nothing really works.

Death by VHS -I paid fifty cents and feel like I was ripped off. I've seen home videos and porn with better production values
