Second publicly released trailer should be a tweaked version of the airport Muto vs. Godzilla scene that comicon audiences saw several months back, with perhaps a touch more reveal on Godzilla. Third trailer should show him rising up from the ocean or rubble pile in daylight to help further convince/reassure general public that this isn't a G98 sequel. At some point Legendary/WB needs to show a quick pop of him using his nuclear breath. Perhaps a quick clip of pre-beam electricity crackling along the dorsal plate tips during initial opwer-up, or the dorsal plates glowing brighter and brighter, then just a very quick shot of him swinging his head around, beam in full power. I think that would be the clincher that this is its own unique film with no ties to the Sony dungheap. Just sayin'...

Besides, there needs to be a distinction between "Established Brands" and "Genre Pictures".

You wouldn't say KickAss 2 underperformed, ergo there's no love for superheroes and WB shouldn't make any more Batman or Superman movies.

This is kinda' like how the most optimistic projections for The Dark Knight were originally $270 million tops. It wound up making that in a week.

There's a hunger for badass, dark Godzilla movie. Here's hoping that pays off at the box office.

Wow, I never realized how well Cloverfield did.

Honestly another good trailer will go very far in determining how well it does. Spiderman looks like crap, but that's just me. An action packed trailer might sell everyone.

No mention of the grade A cast to that will support Godzilla's box office potential? The cast alone is worth a looky.

If the movie does bomb (which I hope it does not), the sad part of it all will be that there will be a segment of the fandom cheering for its failure. :(

US domestic: 225 million

international market: 575 million

total: 800 million

I think people are curious, but the next trailer has to be a knockout to solidify interest.

The official teaser was OK, but not great.

I'd say Godzilla needs to have an opening weekend around $95 mil to $120 mil with around a 45% second weekend drop off if it's going to have a shot at recouping its $160 million budget domestically.

Gino's adjusted domestic box office is $227 million and I believe the adjusted foreign would be at $400 + million.

Well at all generally depends on how well they advertise it ,and I am wondering if it if they'll put a Super Bowl ad in there when the time comes.

It's not enthusiasm so much as a dose of reality. Summer films open huge and usually do their damage in the first three weeks or so and May / June will be loaded with big franchises.

$65 mil or lower will probably put it below Gino's gross. Regardless of how good fans find the film, anything below Gino's totals has to be considered a disappointment. It needs to do much better than Pacific Rim too.

I'd say $250 mil + domestically and $500 mil + foreign is what this film needs to gross.

Of course as long as it entertains me and I get some cool toys out of it, I'll be happy but I'd like to see more than another one and done attempt for Godzilla by a US studio.
