Yep. Personally I'm getting sick of seeing Super Hero after Super Hero. I think it's time for a change of pace. I had hoped Pacific Rim would have kicked it off more, but I guess there wasn't an audience JUST yet.

So he's basing his opinion that Godzilla will bomb off 1. The performance of a movie 16 years ago that was terrible 2. The performance of ultra low budget movies in Japan, a market that is saturated with giant monsters?

I don't know about the 98 toy line, but I'm pretty sure G2000 and G'98 turned a profit. G2000 cost what... $1 million to distribute and they made $10 million back? Not to mention G'14 doesn't even have as large of a budget as all these current flops (John Carter, Lone Ranger etc). The movie could make exactly what Pacific Rim made and probably end up being a success.

Only thing that concerns me box office wise is Godzilla opening between Spider-Man and X-Men.

However, I think both of those franchises are suffering from sequel fatigue, and are more likely to disappoint than Godzilla is.

Still, I'd rather Godzilla open on May 30 or mid June, where the competition is weaker and the movie has the month to itself.

Hey, I wasn't sold on seeing Man of Steal until the 2nd trailer came out and blew me away. Same might happen to non-Godzilla fans.

Maybe they will release a new trailer with some giant money shot in it.
