Christmas 2013!

Wow! Despite all the advertising and Christmas music and whathaveyou starting in late October ('Christmas Creep') I've actually been surprised by this year's Christmas creeping up on me! I mean, I looked at a calendar yesterday and said to myself: 'Wha? Christmas is only a little more than two weeks away!" I think an unusually late Thanksgiving threw me off. I've got decorations to put up and multiple versions of A Christmas Carol to watch! Luckily I still adhered to my practice of planning and finishing all my Christmas shopping in October and November (need to wrap those...).

Today I'm going with my father to drive around looking at Christmas lights (a sort of tradition passed down from his father).

Awesomeness!

Hopefully I'll get a tree today. I always stored my old one with my parents' decorations in the loft in my Dad's garage. It needed lots of room because it didn't fold and or come apart, so it just had to be stored in one piece. Unfortunately, their was a rat problem this year and they had at all the fake berries on my tree, leaving it covered in half eaten foam balls!

Damn! It's Christmas again already. To me it seems like last Christmas just happened. Oh well,at least I got the last of my shopping done last month and all the presents are wrapped. Now I'm waiting to see the Doctor Who Christmas episode.

I thought for sure I was going to have to work on Chirstmas Eve but I don't so I have a nice three day break from work. Monday the 23rd I'll be packing and moving stuff, Christmas Eve I might do something with my best friend and his family or go see The Hobbit 2 with my brother in law. Christmas day I'll be doing the family Christmas. Then I'll have to work early on the 26th which kind of sucks but oh well it should go by fast.

Despite the animation becoming more sophisticated as the years went by, Rankin/Bass' first Christmas Special, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, is still the best. I enjoy some of the later ones a lot, but the anarchic nature of this one is just more fun. It has the feeling of being stuffed with a lot of neat ideas, while later specials seemed more deliberate, even 'safe.'

My work gave me $100 worth of Target gift cards. Bought myself a waffle maker (wooohooo!) and spent the rest on buying toys that I donated to 'Toys for Tots.' My sister helped select 'em, and we tried to cover both sexes and the range between slightly younger to slightly older kids with our selection of Monster High, Iron Man, My Little Pony, and Jake and the Neverland Pirates toys.

I wanted to buy some Ninja Turtles, but they are wiped out at every store.

Tonight my wife and I went to my Parents' house to celebrate Christmas.

Got Pacific Rim and a new camcorder for when the little guy shows up (in March)! It was awesome - we wanted one anyway, so this was the perfect gift to celebrate our son's arrival.

I've only visited a couple of aunts and uncles, ended up with 75.00 in cash/gift cards. So that's what I've got thus far.
I'm up wayy too early today. I have Christmas at my lady friend's sister's place, then at my dad's.
Tonight is going to be weird, my grandfather passed away in the spring, and December 24th was ALWAYS the get together at his place. :/

My mom has to work today till 3:30 so it will be a couple more hours till Christmas officially begins but the bottle of Crown Royale Maple, I've consumed has made my family so much easier to deal with for the holidays. That said, of the presents I've opened, my movie slate is my favorite. Hopefully I get to put it to good use this year.
