I feel as though I'm dangerously close to running into a wall again...and there seems to be a trend growing in that respect...a potential "foes" worthy trend.

If I have to take a guess, I don't think Toho flat say no since they allow companies to include American or International versions. It's probably because they don't own the rights to the U.S. cut of Varan or they didn't have the materials, mostly the rights issue. I also find it strange Media Blasters didn't add the international dub for Varan for the release.

Toho's international sales catalogs started listing English dubbed versions of some movies in 1962 (before that, subtitled versions were offered). VARAN, THE THREE TREASURES and THE LAST WAR were the sci-fi/FX films in the initial batch of titles.

Toho no longer has some of these international dubs so the materials have either deteriorated or were lost.

Of course Toho "own the rights" to the U.S. version of VARAN...it's their movie. Why would that reason even cross anyone's mind?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, makes me glad I have held off on Megalon this long. I was just thinking about buying the DVD next year when I start going through the Godzilla movies, but this has made me decide to hold off on that decision.

Hopefully Atragon goes back into print as well.

Regarding the US version of Varan, I wonder how it came to be from Amazon and some company called Synergy Entertainment. Did Toho or Media Blasters have anything to do with that?

Sorry in advance for hijacking this thread again, but I received a PM from Tyler today apologizing for the recent troubles and stating he's also apologized to Cliff Macmillan. I said before that any communications I had with Tyler would be public, and that's why I replying here rather than via PM.

Tyler, your apology is accepted, and as far as I'm concerned this issue is resolved.

Regarding quoting info from SciFi Japan, I'm okay with anyone doing that. Cutting and pasting big sections of text isn't allowed but if you want to quote some info in a video or run a small excerpt online, that's okay. If it's original info (rather than a press release) please credit SFJ.

And if I can help corroborate info or answer a question, just ask. The same goes for anyone here.

Now back to the Godzilla DVD talk...

Any distributor willing to pay Toho and agree to their terms could release Godzilla films on DVD/BRD, the question might more aptly be put - who would?
To which there can be and endless debate. If profit is a concern, then it is likely we might not see any more Toho sci-fi films released for a long time. Believe me when I say I would love more than anything to see a huge wave of merchandise (including DVD's and BRD even of films I already have), Next Spring & Summer. However (just as an example) Marvel/Disney is releasing Billion dollar blockbusters each summer. Sony is right up there with Spider-Man, and Fox with X-Men/F4 etc... How come Disney has not capitalized on these films to release some of the vast Marvel animated Library on to DVD? Fox's 1990's Spider-Man Animated Series is continuously among the most requested animated series NOT on DVD, and yet Disney passed on it in 2007, and again in 2012. I have little reason to believe 2014 will be any different, but I hope I am wrong.

If Media Blasters still had their act together I'd say them but at this point I don't think they would do so.

Hopefully whom ever does pick up the Sony Showa licenses includes the Titra or is it Walter Reade dubbs for Sea Monster and Son of Godzilla; I love those dubbs.

I think our best chance of getting the Titra/Titan dubs of Sea Monster, Son, and Hedorah on DVD is if Shout! Factory licenses those titles. They made it a point to include both available dubs when they put Gamera vs. Gyaos and Gamera vs. Guiron on DVD.

I don't care who does it, but I want to just see a god damned Blu-Ray box set containing ALL of the movies to come out.

You say that isn't possible because different studios might own only certain movies, but then I raise you Alfred Hitchcock and Quentin Tarantino sets that have movies owned by various studios found within them. If someone cared enough to do it, it could be done.

Speaking of BD, I watched Final Wars for the first time in 1080P today (the last time I watched it on BD, I did not have a 1080P tv) and yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah, the video was extremely soft and lacked fine details. It was pretty much just a slight upgrade to the DVD due to some better audio.
