Uhhh... Takarada played Ogata in the original. Why would he be too old to play Ogata, but OK to play Serizawa, who was an older character and who died at the end of the original??? :?

Guys the movie isn't going to be tied back to any other film. I can't believe we are having this conversation.

It's a tip of the hat to fans, that's all...PJ set his Kong film in 33 but that didn't make it a sequel to the original.

woops, I only looked at the initial release date (which was overseas) of July 5.

Still, Despicable Me shouldn't KILL Pacific Rim, considering one is a family movie and the other is supposed to draw the Transformers audience, which don't overlap too too much.

I'm guessing most 12-19 boys didn't run out to watch Despicable Me 2 (and from box office numbers, they didn't kill themselves to see Pacific Rim either). I maintain that PacRim had as little competition as a film can hope for in the summer season.
