Seventh Voyage of Sinbad. Doesn't get any better than this. Jason and the Argonauts might be a better film BUT I might prefer Seventh Voyage if for no other reason than it has the best cast of monsters out of any Harryhausen film.

V for Vendetta - It must be Nov 5th because I just watched this movie. :-p Yes, so as I do every year around this day, I watched it and loved every minute of it once again. This is by far one of the best comic book adaptations ever produced in movie form. It has a great set of actors playing an excellent cast of characters with some fantastic dialog. Even lines that weren't in the comic come out feeling like they were always there (such as V's introductory speech) and even with alterations to the original story, nothing feels out of place. The pacing is magnificent, the visuals are spectacular, and the music always fits the mood of the movie. I give this movie a fantastic 10/10 stars.

Children of Men - I wasn't terribly impressed the first time I saw it way back, and I'm still not. It played a little better for me this time out, but I really don't get all the love for this movie.

Recently saw The Goddess on TCM's Silent Sunday.

And then I read about the actress who was the star of that movie. :( :( :(

Also finally got around to seeing The Sand Pebbles. Holy cow that was quite a ride.

Session 9 - A very cheap looking and somewhat atmospheric supernatural flick. A bit slow going through most of it though. Love or hate it, you can't deny that the greatness that is .

Devil - Okay, I got to say I went in expecting the worst of the worst but honestly it wasn't so bad. The worst of it was the fact they kept hammering the point about the Devil's Meeting over again and again. If they just made one mention of it and then left the audience get the details it'd seem like a better movie. But regardless of all that, it was a tense murder mystery with supernatural elements. I've always kind of liked stories with the devil, so it stuck some fun chords with me. But yeah the premise is totally ridiculous.

I enjoyed Session 9, though I don't really remember much of it beyond it being pretty atmospheric, well done for its low budget, and about a mental asylum.

Devil, I remember feeling more or less the same way you did, except I don't really have a predisposition to liking it, so I came away a little less favorable. Nothing I hated, but I can't really say there was much to like, either.

THor 2 - This movie was pretty good. It is no where near as good as the first one, as it feels like a sequel, but it is by far the best Marvel sequel since X-Men 2. It puts to shame the god awful Iron Man sequels and shows that sometimes Marvel can do a follow up right. Unfortunately, the movie does sacrifice character development for countless action, which is cool, but the movie needed to be at least 20 minutes longer so there could actually be some breathing room in between the action. Loki is by far the star of the movie as every scene with him is nothing short of brilliant. He is pretty much The Dark Knight's version of the Joker in this movie. I did like the Cybermen... I mean Dark Elves a lot better than the Frost Giants. Lastly, there are scenes during the credits and after, so make sure you stay throughout the entire thing to get both scenes. One leads into Guardians of the Galaxy while the other is pretty much the end of Thor 2. Overall, I give this movie a 7 or 8/10, haven't decided yet. Need a few days to think about it.

The Ghost of Frankenstein

I sure wish they ended this franchise with the third film. This one is rather dull and generally just serves to remind you how impressive the earlier films were. The ending with Ygor's brain in the body of the monster is pretty cool, though. How much better would this movie be if that happened halfway through and we had the devious Ygor/Monster running around for a go portion of the film?

Fallen - Denzel Washington tries to fight a fallen angel that can transfer from person to person via touch. A bit predictable at times, sometimes in ways that had you knowing where things would end up, but not exactly how they would wind up there, so at least not wholly predictable. I'm also not sure the ending completely works...

Olympus has Fallen - crappy...but in a fairly entertaining way. Could have had 20 minutes cut from it, though, easily. We don't really need the intro to be as long as it is...the movie is basically a Die Hard clone. In Die Hard, we aren't "treated" to a 20 minute intro to John's worst day as a cop and the reason he and Holly are fighting and the reason he's on his way to LA. It's 5 minutes to set all that up, and then the movie kicks off. This movie needed to trim some of the fat, and inject just a touch more humor and it could have been a really fun action flick.

The next one was Meets the Wolf Man, and yeah: that was the entire idea behind Bela playing the Monster... but even though all that stuff was edited out the Monster doesn't seem to have Ygor's devious personality.

Super Hero Taisen Z (spoiler warning) - I was about ready to throw my remote at the tv when that stupid bird bot farted and the movie kept giving me scenes with Yoko. Didn't we get enough of this little **** in Go-Buster? Thankfully, things took off right after they stopped putting so much focus on her and got better. I enjoyed this so much more than the first one. I felt the movie was actually written by someone who is at least 18 years old instead of 8, as it sort of had a plot. Oh yeah, and I'm not sure what happened between the bad Gaven movie and this, but Geki's actor improved A LOT since I last saw him on screen as a character, which I was pretty impressed with. I also thought GokaiSilver was well done and not out of character. It was also nice to see Shadow Moon get handled with more respect for a change (even if the hopper spurs looked ridiculously fake, why have they not been able to recreate them like they were in Black????). On the other hand, what a waste of Metal Hero keys. They were on screen for all of 30 seconds, making them entirely pointless. I would rather have had them do more with that than another stupid cameo with Inazuman (who again, served no purpose here).

Regardless of its negatives, it was a nicely done movie and is what they should have given us in the first place. It does feel odd to have a movie that is supposed to be a Sentai vs Rider (vs Metal Hero) and not really have any Sentai vs Rider moments in it though.

BTW, what was the point of Kotoha being in this? She was on screen for less than a minute and we never heard from her again. I give the movie a 7/10.

Hansel and Gretel was quite bad. The only thing I really remember in the movie is when Gretel is being bullied by some dudes, she has her coat on. They push her to the ground her coat is mysteriously gone.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 - Thankfully, a much better improvement over the second one. It is nice to see Nancy again and what had happened to her after the events of the first movie even though they ruined her character in the very end. The whole bones things was kind of dumb though, and really just added an unnecessary subplot that served no purpose. They should have just had the kids beat the crap out of Freddy using their dream powers instead of it. Also, did Freddy kill the other kids or did they survive? It was never quite clear to me which way it went. I also wanted to point out that the audio of this movie is kind of lacking. Sure, it sucked in the second movie too, but the first one had all of these sound effects coming from all different directions that helped keep you on the edge of your seat. Here, the only time they seemed to use it was in the junkyard, which is a shame. Overall, it is nothing to write home about, but as I said, it was by far better than the second movie, so I give this movie a 5/10.

True, I definitely liked the way they pulled off the sleep walking thing. I guess my score should be a 6, not a 5, as it is slightly above average.

Nightmare on Elm Street 4 - The scene where Rick is in the elevator going down is pretty much this movie. First off, if you are going to continue the characters from the previous movie, BRING ALL OF THE ACTORS BACK!!! It does not help me even give a damn about the character when the replacement girl cannot even act for half a damn. Of course, her acting is pretty much on par with everyone in this movie, down right dreadful. I kept waiting for her to yell, "This is my acting career," when she was sinking in the sand. And it seems like the rest of the characters were there just to die, as everyone in this movie is as flat as the disc. There is not a single drop of character development whatsoever, so why am I supposed to care that these kids are dying? If it weren't be for how funny Freddy's awful campy puns, this movie would be as bad as the second movie. Instead, despite how Freddy is now the horror equivalent of Adam West, he is the only thing that saves this movie from being completely unwatchable. With that said, I give this movie a 3/10 and wished the series had drowned in a water bed with this one.
