I was never terribly moved by The Lord of the Rings' over-the-top dramatic beats anyway, so The Hobbit was never a priority, trilogy or not. (Though my chances of seeing it would've been better had they stuck with a single movie.)

They're well made movies, just nothing I ever plan on sitting through again any time soon. If ever. As for The Hobbit flicks, if I never actively seek them I'm sure I'll catch them back-to-back on TNT for whatever Middle Earth marathon happens in the next 5 years...

I don't know how you cannot sit through them. They move so fast that you don't even realize they are 3-4 hour long movies. Not to mention LotR is the greatest trilogy ever made.

Exactly. I don't agree in the least that it's "the greatest trilogy ever made", but regardless of whether or not a movie feels like it goes by quickly (which isn't true for the third and weakest movie) it's still 3+ hours.

Does it really matter? A lot of the greatest movies ever made are 3-4 hours long.

And if you are going to watch the movies, you set that time aside. I watch the trilogy ever summer and plan so a week or two in advanced.

But you really cannot complain when the extended editions are separated onto two discs each movie, so watch the first time at one time, and then watch the next disc later. It is no different than Harry Potter 7 and 8, Matrix 2 and 3 (if you even want to watch them), PotC 2 and 3, etc.

And yes, no trilogy has the amount of characters, character development, or even a developed ending as LotR does.

Anyway, I got my Hobbit EE BD today and it is so awesome that the disc art matches that of the LotR EE trilogy. In fact, they kept the disc case black too.

It has no plot. No main thread of any importance. No proper ending. No proper middle. It has a half of a beginning. And its INSISTENCE on being a LOTR film flies totally in the face of the tone of the more light-hearted Hobbit story, which it doesn't even bother to attempt to tell. People always defend its infuriating swerves from the source material and exhaustive padding by saying it's not a true adaptation and is more of a lotr film, but then by playing the goblins for laughs it spots in the face of the tone of lotr. It's such a horrible film, I literally can't fathom anybody who isn't a complete Tolkien fanboy enjoying it. I can't stand it and it's the final step into the land of garbage for Peter Jackson. Now, he not only makes bloated films with no idea how to edit himself, they also are boring and can barely be called movies. What a complete waste of time. 9 hrs to tell a 300 pafe story...what a jackass. Anybody involved in that decision can shove it.

I loved the book. It wasn't very long - the pacing seemed perfect for the story it told. As a result, I think I went in to AUJ with the mindset that I was already annoyed that it was split up into three movies. I spent most of my time picking it apart pretty good and not trying to enjoy it.

It wasn't until I watched it again with my son on Blu-ray at home( yes, even though I didn't care for it entirely, I still had to have it because it's part of the LOTR and I have all the other movies on disc) I started to enjoy it for what it is. There aren't really any things that bother me anymore like they used to. I enjoy all the action and even all the exposition at the beginning, even the songs they sing.

Well, maybe two things still bother me. Namely, why only a couple dwarfs have "normal" faces and the Goblin King(was that his name?). I can live with the dwarf thing , but what was up with the Goblin King's stupid voice and stupid song?? And why is he the only goblin to speak "English"??

Regardless, the trailer for the new movie looks pretty good so far. As I said, I ultimately enjoyed the first movie so I'm looking forward to the next one.

I'm not trying to call you out or anything, but jellydonut 25 and gman2887. It doesn't seem like you like the LOTR movies in general. I don't understand why you're still here harping on how bad, long, uninteresting they are. It's like arguing for the sake of arguing. Not everyone likes every genre of movie. Or even series of movies wthin a genre. I think that all of us here in a primarily Godzilla forum understand (or have at least experienced) these sentiments from others
