I'm going to wait on a trade for Infinity; way too much material for me to handle with the other stuff I'm getting, and I'm already dropping some things as it is. In the book "map" in the back of #1, it shows sixteen separate issues, and that's not counting all of the tie-ins that come with it. The guy at my store gave me an advertisement for it and between August and September alone there are twelve additional tie-ins. So I'm definitely going to be waiting for that; same thing goes for Battle of the Atom, which sounds really cool. Gonna be a long wait... :x

Aside from that, I decided to pick up some of the New 52 Justice League stuff. It's fun; I'm a little on the fence about how they are handling Superman and Wonder Woman, but it's not bad enough to make me dislike it. I'm glad I tried it. Vol. 2 comes out next month, and I ordered it at ten dollars, so it's not a bad deal.

I've been reading a bunch of Aquaman and yeah...of the New 52 the only thing I've gotten super into is The Flash. I hate that the reboot takes place 6 years into this world. It's just...dumb.

I thought that was odd as well. Has that not changed yet? After finishing JL Vol.1 (in an afternoon :D ) I saw that there was a guy who was writing a book about the events; I figured that'd be the end of it, and they'd fast-forward to a time in the near future where people didn't fear superheros (much) anymore. Weird.

Flash 23.2 Reverse Flash was great!

Indestructible Hulk continues to be fun as Hulk rampages through camelot.

I also picked up the Joker villains month issue and it was...alright and was the source of an incredibly hilarious image.
I also read the Justice League Lobo issue featuring the new Lobo. I dunno, he's kind of boring but the design is cool.

^After you said something, I decided to pick up some Indestructible Hulk. I went first and picked up 1-5, and I liked it so much I went back the next day and picked up 6-11. I'm waiting for 12; the guy said there was some coming next week, and then I'll get 13. I can't believe I passed this up when it first came out. Awesome.

Also gave the new Mighty Avengers a shot, the team of Avengers acting in the absence of the other Avengers while they're in space. It was okay; it was nice to see some underused characters show up. So far, the lineup consists of Luke Cage, White Tiger, Power Man (a new Power Man, I guess), Spectrum, and Spider-Man. Apparently, Blue Marvel and She-Hulk are going to be a part of it as well. Oh, and I forgot the Splendiferous Spider Hero (not a joke  ). Spider-Man's reaction to this guy was hilarious.

I just read the manga Tekkonkinkreet by Taiyo Matsumoto. Really, really dug it. A lot of manga (like a lot of mainstream US comics) comes across as a bit 'samey' to me, but Matsumoto's style is just so different and personal (and also awesome) that I was taken the moment I saw it. Funny, beautiful, and possibly profound - I recommend it.

- and I actually picked up the movie adaptation before I finished the book: I found it staring at me yesterday at the $12.99 Blu-Ray section of Barnes and Noble! Hope to watch it today.

I saw the movie a few years back (back when Blockbusters were still in every town) and I thought it was great. I never did try to find the manga though... sounds like it is worth revisiting

Blerp. Read Guardians of the Galaxy Issue 6. Such a long wait for what is basically an elaboration on everything we saw in Issue 5.

Still making my way through the massive series Love and Rockets. I just read 'Poison River,' a novel-length storyline from Gilbert Hernandez that has some of the most incredible cartooning I've ever seen. They way he cuts between different scenes and different times from one panel to the next is amazing.

My FLCS owner has a pretty good idea of the kind of books that I'll enjoy. So his latest recommendation was a series "East of West". I picked up the first trade and what a weird, wild, violent world. Its a post apocalyptic SciFi Western. There is a lot going on (good world building) but the main thread is that three of the four horsemen of apocalypse are ready to get the end started, but Death is off on his own personal agenda. I'm definitely interested to see more.

New Infinity was actually pretty cool.

The latest Thor is also decent as well. I feel like I need to read old Malekith stuff to see if he's always been so insane/violent.

I have a pile of comics I need to read: floppies and collections... but I keep adding more! Someone dumped a bunch of '50s EC Comics reprints (from, I think, the early '90s) at a used bookstore and suddenly I have a bunch of issues of Tales From the Crypt, Vault of Horror, and Shock Suspense Stories!

Never read a Hellboy comic before? The recently released Hellboy: The Midnight Circus is a great place to start. Set during Hellboy's childhood, it's effectively a prequel to the rest of the series. It's also the series at its artistic best.

Image

I also recently read Drawn and Quarterly's initial Kitaro collection. I've been waiting for a long time to get a glimpse at this incredibly influential bit largely unknown (in the U.S.) character and it does not disappoint. Kitaro is both funny and creepy with gorgeous art - gestural and cartoony for the characters that stand out from immaculately rendered backgrounds (and occasionally incredibly detailed, particularly grotesque monsters).

-and the longest story in this Kitaro collection is a kaiju homage!

Picked up this as a bargain book at B&N today:

I'm not terribly familiar with the storyline, but I'm guessing that this guy is the law?

Read The Star Wars #3.

EHHHHH
This is mostly just a curiosity. I can't complain because it's more or less what I expected. Most of the appeal for me is seeing names and concepts used slightly differently.

i picked up the first trade for "Lazarus" a new Image series from Greg Rucka. It felt a bit short for a trade (4 issues/96 pages) but at half the price of what IDW charges for their 4 issue Godzilla trades it was money well spent. Great premise with a lot of potential, I am really interested to see where it is going, but so far we are off to a great start.

I often post about the random stuff i pick up, but here's what I am picking up as far as new things.

Current Monthly Pull List:
Darkhorse:
- The Strain ( the comic adaptation of GDT/Hogan books.. not sure why i dont trade wait this..)
Vertigo:
- The Wake (Scott Snyder's 10 issue underwater creature horror series)
IDW:
- Godzilla RoE (Why arent you reading this)

Current Trades Pull List:
Image:
- Fatale (Horror-Noir from Ed Brubaker)
- East of West (Scifi Western Post-Apocalypse)
- Saga (Brian K Vaughn. Sci-fi Romance, action, weirdness, well written, beautifully drawn)
- Invincible (Guilty pleasure...i dont normally admit to this one... superhero comic from Robert Kirkman)
IDW:
- Locke & Key (Horror from Joe Hill)
Boom:
- Deathmatch (Deconstructed superhero genre. Surprisingly engaging)

Recently dropped:
- Morning Glories (too many flashbacks to Lost.. do the writers even know whats going on?)
- Prophet (WTF is going on and why is so boring and WTF is that thing? so confused, yet so bored)
- Thief of Thieves (Loved the first arc of this... the second, not so much.. from there... I quit)
