That's cheaper than Amazon which has it for $10; I wish Michigan had a Fry's I hear nothing but good things about that store.

Just picked up a copy of The Shining on Blu ray. Its definitely in my top 10 favorite movies of all time. Jack Nicholson gives one of my favorite performances ever.

I love The Shining, but I do not care for Nicholson in it. I just am not convinced at all by his transformation as he seems to be psychotic from beginning to end unlike Weber in the tv movie version who felt like a natural progression. That aside, the movie is incredible and suspenseful.

Anyway, my g/f got The Conjuring and Vincent Price Collection today for BD and I got for $5 the Hammer films DVD of The Mummy. It's from 2001, so I don't expect it to be good quality, but I want to at least see this movie.

I agree it isn't a normal transformation if you view it as normal guy->homicidal maniac. To me though, I view his transformation as a Douchebag prick -> Homicidal douchebag prick. He's already shown to be violent alcoholic. The ghosts and cabin fever just pushed him over the edge.

I can't stand the director... but much like his other films i'll probably see it and just sit there wishing it had been done by someone that can handle consistent pacing. The first half of Bronson was good. The second half of Drive was good. Valhalla Rising was painful throughout.

I'm in the "love it" camp but I love Refn's films. It'll probably be in my top 10 at the end of the year.

I'll probably watch it shortly after Halloween. I'm super curious about it, and have had it awaiting a watch for some time...

Also got a replacement GODZILLA 2000 - my old Hong Kong disc is finally getting put out to pasture.

Took the plunge. Now I have Halloween, 2, 3, H20, and Zombie's H2 on Blu-ray, and those are all the Halloween films I care to have. (Incidentally, I almost bought the Nightmare on Elm Street Collection, as $25 for 1,3, and New Nightmare didn't seem bad at all. I still may at some future date pick up that set, if the price stays relatively low)

I was overdue for this one.

Picked up Monster Squad (20th Anniversary Edition) on Blu-ray via amazon. This version is out of print and the current version floating around has no features, not even subtitles, so I grabbed this for $25.

African Queen, Treasure of Sierra Madre, Ben-Hur, Shane and Once Upon a Time in the West... all Blu-ray.

WOW. African Queen and Ben-Hur are just absolutely STUNNING in their frame-by-frame remasters on Blu. If you don't have them and consider yourself a classic film collector then these titles seriously belong in your collection. They look & sound AMAZING. For casual viewers, they surely rate at least a rental. I got 'em used on Amazon, so they were very reasonable and worth every penny. Haven't watched "Treasure..." yet and only halfway through "Once Upon a Time..." but it's beautful so far. Forgot just how ruthlessly nasty Henry Fonda was in this film. Need to order The Ten Commandments for the holidays.
