Any News on Godzilla DVD Rereleases?

I have not had a chance to follow up with my Sony contacts. But I did log on to their press site for home video to see which Toho titles were listed. According to the site, Sony is still offering all of their Heisei and Millennium Godzilla titles, the ICONS OF SCI-FI: TOHO COLLECTION, the first two REBIRTH OF MOTHRA movies (since ROM3 was never released on DVD it wouldn't be listed on the home video site), the TriStar GODZILLA and the GODZILLA: THE SERIES volumes released a few years back.

The Showa Godzillas are no longer listed. Until I get confirmation from my contacts I wouldn't take that as 100% proof Sony's rights have lapsed for those films (they may just be out of print for now), but I can say Sony's not offering them at this time.

Thing is Sony's Showa DVDs look better than some bluray out there. I'm pretty content with their Showa releases. What I want are some Heisei re-release in the proper aspect ratio, in its original language (no dubtitles, please) and the credits restored. It's become ridiculous we're still waiting on decent releases of these movies when the majority of the others have received just that.

I thought their showa releases were great - bare, yes. But the films themselves look and sound about as good as I could hope for.

Most of Sony's Showa films do have good subs I thought. The only one being MechaGodzilla and that was only in one scene.

I don't speak Japanese but the subtitles on the Son of Godzilla, Hedorah, and Gigan DVDs definitely don't correspond to the dubs.

You know what I'd also like if the Millennium series gets a re-release, bluray or otherwise? I'd like Sony to do away with, or at least give us the option to do away with, those insane, ugly english title cards slapped on top of the Japanese title graphics. Title intros are becoming a thing of the past, but the Millennium series had some real fun ones in there. The revelation of Mothra's wing at the beginning of Tokyo S.O.S. is practically crucified with those ugly title cards and GMK's "explosion" effect with King Ghidorah and Mothra's name, coinciding with the percussion, is gone.

It might seem like a silly thing to complain about to some, but it really takes me out of the movie. And I really enjoyed those title graphics. I wish someone would give us a DVD/bluray option to nix those things. (Unless there always has been one and I've had no idea.)
