MACHETE KILLS

Postby mr.negativity » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:53 pm

From Deadline:

[quote="MIKE FLEMING "]EXCLUSIVE:

Robert Rodriguez is teaming with producer Alexander Rodnyansky to hatch a sequel to the 2010 action film Machete. Titled Machete Kills, the film is the second in a planned trilogy with what, for my money, is the best ever trailer tag line: “This time, they "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" with the wrong Mexican!â€

I figure this is the best place to put this since I don't think there is a dedicated Machete Kills thread. I just walked out of the theater after seeing this. My impression is that this is one of the best terrible movies I've ever seen. The first Machete was ridiculous. This movie tries to find how ridiculous the Machete franchise can be. If you like Robert Rodgriquez movies, this film is for you as it takes all the most insane characteristics of his films and condenses them into pure blue crystal meth craziness. If you were to drink every time someone is decapitated you would be unconscious 20 minutes into the film. This movie seems to be getting hammered by reviews and it makes me laugh because what were these people expecting? A coherent plot? Decent acting? This movie sells itself on how halfbaked it is. The first Machete was a quazi-love letter to Mexican exploitation films. This film is a straight up parody of the first one and genre as a whole, and you can tell that from the very first fake trailer (Machete Kills Again... IN SPACE). The only thing I felt was over done is that there were one too many cameos, (The Chameleon plot line could have been dropped completely) and some of the exposition was drawn out and killed the pacing. Other than that, I can't wait for the next sequel... IN SPACE!

Hmmmm....I thought Machete was a monumental disappointment. Trailers for Kills look good. Good to hear some positive reviews

We were supposed to see Kills last weekend, but then all of our friends bailed on us because they had "better things to do," so we did not end up seeing it. We'll just rent it when it appears on Netflix.

I finally saw Machete Kills and I while I found it to be mostly fun, I thought it could have been trimmed down and I was disappointed by how really terrible the effects were.

I mean, to a certain point, I get it, I understand it's SUPPOSED to be a bad movie and all, but then I look at something like Planet Terror and feel like THAT'S what I want these Grindhouse movies to be. Ridiculous plots, over-the-top acting, scenes that don't all quite make sense, schlocky nonsense, but backed by a FAR bigger budget than any movie like this ever gets.

It basically feels like the absolute BEST SyFy Original/Asylum film I've ever seen, but I wanted it to feel like the most schlocky Hollywood movie ever instead, if that makes sense.

Sofia Vergara is pretty awesome in a supremely vulgar way, and Amber Heard is kinda mesmerizing, Danny Trejo is great as usual and the whole cast seems to be having fun. It winds up being very fun at least.
