So ZERO: Black Blood started a couple of weeks back. Haven't had a chance to watch any of it yet though. Looks good from the snippets.

Re: GARO Meta Series thread

I've been too busy to keep up and boy oh boy has Garo taken off as an ongoing series of tv shows, mini-series and movies.
The latest series, which started last week is GARO: Makai no Hana and sees the return of Keita Amemiya as director (In 2013 he directed another series called Shougeki Gouraigan). The previous series, Garo: Yami O Terasu Mono was directed by Makoto Yokoyama and was weak sauce IMO. In Makai no Hana the main character is Raiga, the son of Kouga and Kaoru, taking the reigns of the Garo armor and living in the mansion which still is serviced by butler Gonza (played by Yukijirō Hotaru).

There is also a Garo anime coming out later in 2014, directed by Yasuko Kobayashi (Attack on Titan). The stills I've seen look half amazing and half generic. There's some fuzzy images .

Kobayashi is doing the Garo anime? Ugh, I hope it is better than ToQGer. And Den-O. And Go-Buster. And her adaptation of Death Note.

So I'm watching Shougeki Gouraigan, and it's pretty crazy. They just let Amemiya run completely wild. It has all of his visual earmarks folded into an absurd almost Fooly Cooly world.

I saw the first two episodes of Shougeki Gouraigen and immediately turned off by it. There wasn't really anything for me to latch onto. And yeah, the characters were kinda crappy from what I saw.

As for GARO, I'm so glad to see this show expanded as much as it has. While it isn't really the end-all, be-all show for me, its a really fun take on an adult-themed tokusatsu series that's quite refreshing from time to time. I love the intense fighting and the mythos behind the franchise. And while many rag on the third season, Yami O Terasu Mono, I actually quite enjoyed it. I want this series to expand beyond the Saejima family and show the struggles of other warriors in the fight against the Horror. And I think Yami did that well.

Speaking of the Saejima family, I haven't seen the first episode of Makai no Hana yet. But that's only because I want to finish Zero: Black Blood first. I'm two episodes in and so far, so good. I've always wanted a show surrounding Rei's character. His aloof yet serious manner is something that helped counteract Kouga's forever-stoic nature. So, a mini-series centered around him is right up my alley.

I would have preferred to see Rei continue as a loner, but winds up with two assistants in Black Blood. It was still an interesting mini series. Though there's always something about gaijin casting in tokusatsu that annoys me. I think it's that they are mostly terrible actors (except for Mark Musashi who knows when to keep his mouth shut ;) ).

Makai no Hana returns to the tried and true Amemiya formula. So if you like the first two series you'll like the 4th. The speculation I've been reading is that the 3rd series takes place some time in the distant future (which makes sense since there's a lot of futuristic or scifi touches to the show).

Thane Camus (Ring in Zero: Black Blood) was in an episode of Makai no Hana. Ugh... he's really awful.
Anyway, Makai no Hana is a great series so far. It's good to see Amemiya back in control.

Yeah, the series is easily the best since the first season. My favorite episode is the American Horror movie Horror.

News on upcoming GARO projects: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zl20a37x4U

Essentially we have a new movie and series featuring Ryuga and Rian from Yami o Terasu Mono. A movie featuring Raiga and another featuring Bikuu. And the GARO anime is getting a second season.

More GARO goodness for us fans. :D

I'm honestly burnt out on Garo. In the end, I found Makai no Hana to be a let down and I have lost my interest and faith in the Garo franchise. I also watched the first episode of the anime and that was enough for me. Of the upcoming projects, the movie is the only thing that interests me because I loved Raiga as a character, just not the execution the season was given.

I can't find the strength to watch makai no hana but honoo no kokuin is building up quiet nicely - Mendoza is revealed to be quite a tragic villain.

Can't hardly wait to get my hands on the new Garo SHF series. :D

So I may be in the minority here, but I found the latest series to be as dull as dull can be. The previous one....as hated as it was by most, I actually enjoyed quiet a bit.

I was less than half way into Yami but then I stopped watching because of various reason, need to catch up one day.

PS: As for honoo no kokuin, looks like I hit the jackpot when I said the main character need to trade his armour with a certain cousin. XDD

Makai no Hana was a pretty lackluster series, but it did have a great character in Raiga as he had qualities from both Kouga and Kaoru and as expected from Amemiya, the designs were badass. Also, there were a few great episodes tof be found in there such as the horror movie one and the music one. Unfortunately, the show spent more than half of the series developing the Horror of the Week more than it did to any of the characters. I also did not help that the last 3 episodes was all there was to the plot. I'm pretty much done with Garo at this point. Outside of the Raiga movie, nothing looks good. The anime is a piece of **** and the next season is going to focus on Ryuga and his Boring Duo.
