I guess I might as well give my 2 cents. I know everyone's gonna disagree with me but at this point, I don't care.
Positives
- I guess it looks kinda like Godzilla (way more so that Gino obviously).
- The overall shape is kinda there.
- Spikes look ok.
- Skin texture is looking better from last time I saw the early Marquette.
Negatives
-Despite the overall shape being ok, it also almost reminds me of a 3-dimensional shape of "Littlefoot's Mother" from Land Before Time.
-And on that note, he doesn't look very brutal/intimidating (at least not from this angle)
-The eyes aren't really doing it for me. They certainly looked a lot better in the encounter footage.
-Teeth need to be way sharper and longer than that. Looks too omnivorous or even herbivorous.
-I don't really mind that he has "gills", but you'd think they'd make them bigger considering his size. Then again, they're kinda making Godzilla almost like a shark if they're gonna give him that many gills.
-I saw one facebook post from someone saying this Godzilla reminded him of George Clooney . . . . . . . you know what, hate to say it but I see a likeness haha.
As some of you saw in my facebook post regarding this, (and to give the short generalized version) they would've been much better off just taking an oldschool design from one of the more classic films, CG'n the hell out of it with slight modifications, and leaving it at that. Bottom line, for a design that took several years (like it did in America back in the 90s again), its mediocre (history repeating itself in a way??). A lot of ppl are obviously disagreeing as they feel everything has to be new new new. And yea we live in an age where all concepts and mediums "have to" be modified for new appeal, marketing, demographics or whatever the reason. But then you have to ask the question, how do we know if bringing "oldschool back" is going to succeed or fail in a case like this . . . . . . ????? We honestly don't. Either way its just as much a 50/50 gamble when it comes to a films success. We don't even know if ppl are even going to go see this Godzilla this time around being the fact that its opening alongside films like Spiderman 2, X-Men, and Wizard of Oz 2 (that's some pretty tall competition for the time even for Godzilla to be going up against for box office numbers). And don't misinterpret what I'm saying there. I don't want it to flop. If anything I want it to be a good film at very least (especially since Frank Darabont had a hand in writing the script). But getting back to this design, I would just hope one day in my generation, America or TOHO might revert back to a more oldschool concept we once loved. I'm not saying remake it "exactly" like we remembered it, just bring some nostalgia with a new/witty idea and have fun with it or do a dark theme with it. (Always 2 had the right idea.) And if I'm the only one who feels that here than so be it.
"ooooo GODZILLA is "roasting" KING KONG.!!!!"
