This movie was horribly marketed. I look at something like Elysium, which yes has Matt Damon, but otherwise roughly half the marketability of Pacific Rim and wonder how they managed to pull off a MUCH better advertising campaign...
I mean, something like Pacific Rim should have been doing the Iron Man/Superman thing and SELLING ITSELF OUT: PacRim Happy Meals, PacRim Subway deals, PacRim Pepsi products, PacRim guest spots and tie-ins on various reality/live TV shows...
I mean, imagine my surprise watching Ink Master and seeing them run the first half of the show about Elysium because apparently Matt Damon has a bar code tattooed on him during the movie or something, and then the artists all had to do bar codes.
Why couldn't PacRim do a tie-in with something like one of those makeup shows, or hell Top Chef? Show some extended clip then tell the chefs they all have to make a dish inspired by the pacific rim, and whether they choose to incorporate ideas from the movie like "I made a giant-sized portion" or something or if they just wanted to do dishes from the Pacific Rim area of the world is up to them.
To me, it's mind-boggling that an R-rated film has more tie-ins than a PG-13 blockbuster...
