Weren't a bunch of the old Doctors older guys? Even Peter Cushing played the Doctor in some TV movie or something.

Anyway, does this mean Dr Who just lost like its entire female fanbase?

Peter Cushing never played the Doctor Mouth. It wasn't until the past few Doctors that have been cast as younger.

I'd hoped they would choose a less boyish Doctor.

Loved Tennant and smith, but always felt they seemed far to Young.
(Yes, I know Tennant is in his forties and Smith in his 30's, but they SEEMED younger than that)

I started off with Tom Baker in the early '80's on my local PBS Station, so he kinda ends up as my Doctor archetype.

As for the actor himself, I'll reserve my Judgement until I see him in action.

Trying my best to not Geek-Out over the issues that are coming up...
The limitations on the regeneration cycle, the Valyard, John Hurt, etc...

Tokyo, a smoldering memorial to the unknown, an unknown which at this very moment still prevails and could at any time lash out with its terrible destruction anywhere else in the world.

I think the Torchwood connection is going to bother me more than the Pompeii connection. He was excellent in that.

Ah, but to me he'll always be the-one-who's-not-Hugh-Grant from the work of epic beauty that is Lair of the White Worm.

Haven't been doing much celebrating of DW's 50th anniversary, so I mean to rectify that. Just watched the 4th Doctor adventure Seeds of Doom for the first time. It really felt like one of those action hero oriented 3rd Doctor stories, but with the horror edge that these early Tom Baker stories had. 6 episode-long serials can be trying, but I felt that this one largely worked, with only episode 3 falling victim of that old DW padding trick of having characters captured, escape, and captured again to fill up the runtime.

Yeah, the Hinchcliffe/Holmes era preferred the 'six-parter that's really a linked two-parter and a four-parter' format.

I've read that Holmes hated six-parters.
