I think they way Godzilla has dragged on, its always been a repetitious slate for the Japanese audiences. So I really don't blame them for wanting something new. The last new monster that was featured in a Godzilla movie that didn't get killed off too quickly was Megaguirus, back in 2001. Then afterwards we go back to Mothra and King Ghidorah.. Then to Mechagodzilla... Then to Mechagodzilla and another Mothra.. Then we get GFW, which does have some old faces reappear, and a new monster is introduced but is later killed off to introduce another Ghidorah. I really love Ghidorah, but I felt both him and Mothra were just to repetitious in the cycle that it must of worn audiences out.
As for Legendary's Godzilla, I would like to see some new monsters and maybe one of Toho's originals. It would be a nice nod to audiences showing that the other monsters haven't been forgotten.
uhh...
