The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp

These Powell and Pressburger films from the '40s are tough to beat. Epic, haunting, overblown and melodramatic (in a good way), funny and humane... and featuring the most spectacular technicolor photography.

This also has to be one of the best comic adaptations ever! Colonel Blimp was a popular satirical newspaper strip. I'd heard that that the film had no real connection with the comic and just used the name, but upon reading the samples on the Blu-Ray I see that's not the case. It's greatly expanded and more sympathetic towards the character, but it's still an adaptation.

I remember shortly after Origins came out in 2009, some lady at my work (she was in her early 20's and obviously a Jackman fan, not an X-Men fan) talked in the lunch room about how it was so much BETTER than all the other X-Men films combined. I had to leave and go back to my desk for fear of rolling up a magazine an whacking her on the head.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Black Dynamite - Hilarious, outrageous, ridiculous and totally fun! I heard there's an animated show now that's great as well. I just wonder how much they spent on the decorations, the furniture in this movie was totally WAY 70's and awesome.

Son of Pink Panther - I actually like this one more than the last few. Started out feeling pretty serious, with the kidnapping and all. Again, fun but I see why it died after this one.

Lost in Space - I remember watching this in the theater and loving it, and also thinking Penny was kinda hot (I was 13 so it's kosher, and she still is pretty hot now as well). And it's still pretty good, until they crash on the planet, then the movie basically stalls too. It's very faithful to the original series, basically taking the plots of the first few episodes and melding them into one long movie. Which is also it's downfall. If the movie was cut a little tighter, and was a little shorter, it'd be great and we would have had a Lost in Space trilogy.

Man, I thought Penny was hot too. The Lost in Space movie is a mess. My dad got me the blu-ray for my birthday. I watched a bit of it, but I need to sit through the whole thing again. I really love that Robot redesign though. Especially the Future Robot that combines it with the classic B-9 style.

Finished Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind. I dug it. I like the world building even if I'm not sure the story I'm actively watching ever lives up to it.
