He really seems hung up on the fact that PR uses some tropes from other Mecha shows...

but those shows borrowed them from other shows... I don't really get what the big deal is. And it ignores the bevy of original things that PR did introduce... the whole post-apocalyptic world it takes place in is pretty damn unique if you ask me.

Oh well, at least he didn't throw out the Evangelion or Transformers cards.

The thing that's getting really annoying with Jeff is that he's trying to pick fights with people. He keeps "challenging" people to debunk his opinions (for example, "prove to me the score was memorable"? WTF) and since that's all they are, the conversations don't go anywhere. Its just people talking in circles.

Having met Jeff in person at several horror cons and G-Fests, I really couldn't imagine him behaving that way in person... I really don't understand when he gets so aggressive on Facebook and when he deliberately puts incendiary stuff out there... he does it more than I care to mention.

Jeff's an awesome dude... I don't get when he does that.

That's really all I wanted to say on it... I don't know if we should be talking about this or not....

I'm much more interested in what Shinji Higuchi had to say.

That said, if Uncle Go (Nagai) likes this then Mr. Zornow's criticism of mecha tropes is thrown out the window.

Yeah, I was thrilled to see Go Nagai give it his approval.

That's probably the highest praise the film has gotten in terms of people involved in the mech/kaiju genres. Nagai is a legend. Unfortunately a lot of people of that stature (ie Honda, Harryhausen, Ishinomori, Tezuka, Yokoyama, etc) are dead.

To have one of the few surviving "originators" say those things is great.
