I picked up Rulers of Earth #1 (Arthur Adams subscription cover! :D) and really liked it. The art is gorgeous and I like how the plot is actually built around the monsters and how their presence impacts this world. I'm looking forward to seeing where this story goes.

I think the effort to refer to events and characters from Kingdom of Monsters and the previous ongoing is pretty silly and unnecessary, though. Those lackluster series are the exact reason why IDW are seeing dwindling interest in their Godzilla titles so actively connecting Rulers of Earth to them isn't going to do the book any favors. Why are IDW so married to this singular ongoing universe, anyway?

Man, when I was talking to Chris Mowry at G-Fest he joked that maybe Boxer wasn't dead...and for a second there I felt my heart sink. Thank god he was joking though. Jesus. I'd find it pretty hard to keep reading knowing Boxer might pull and Hannibal Chau on us.

That was the dumbest and most humiliating death scene I've seen in a while. You'd think they would've had Godzilla blast him or something; instead they had him jump down his throat.

It makes me think even they hated the character.

i really did find the panels perplexing... like "what am i missing here?".. i don't know, maybe they had just watched Reign of Fire and they thought Matthew McConaughey's death scene was incredible. Maybe they just wanted to show Harrison how little his father cared for him.. who knows.

SciFi Japan has an exclusive preview of Godzilla: Rulers of Earth issue #2, coming next week from IDW Publishing. The comic features a battle between Godzilla and Zilla (aka the 1998 American Godzilla).
