If you look at the spines around the neck, and the shape of the snout, it still appears very close to the leaked pic from last year's comic con.

Also, very unusual spine configuration. They're almost all of uniform length and they start very high, with the tallest spine being almost at shoulder height.

I wonder if the new Godzilla will have an almost Showa like set of spines....meaning, one distinct row with two tiny ones on either side, or if he'll be all Hesei/Millenium era like and have all three rows be pretty long. I had guessed they'd go Hesei/Millenium until now...

I'm surprised so many people think that's necessarily indicative of the design.

It's a comiccon poster...it could just as easily have been commissioned to be done by someone who has never seen the design...

And seriously, "birthed through the rubble of the folly and ruins of mankind"?

I swear...I just...man...

it's a cool little teaser poster, but I guess it can't just be that can it?

I'm pretty sure it's going to be somewhat indicative of the final design. No reason to be super cynical and doubtful here.

Godzilla will probably have spines resembling that at the very least, and that's all I tried to comment on.

Since it matches up pretty much EXACTLY to what Akira Takarada said, AND the fact that they are having some huge Godzilla promotions at SDCC, I think this poster is pretty indicative of how he'll look. This isn't like the first Comic-Con image (that shirt) that was released before the movie was even written. They are DEEP into the production and getting ready to start the marketing campaign. They are past the point of just cobbling an image together.
