Superman Returns is a fine film, hampered badly by the worst version of Lois Lane (possibly ever), and a serious lull around the 40-minute to the hour and twenty mark...this is a movie that could have EASILY lost 20 minutes of padding (and not changed much else) and been a GOOD movie instead of just a decent movie.

Once upon a time I thought time would ultimately smile favorably on it, but it seems more and more like it will always just be the overlooked Superman film.

But along with 1 and 2, this actually rounds out a decent Superman film trilogy...

and I dunno how much Spacey is channeling Hackman...Hackman kind of played it a little bit more inept, over-confident and not really living up to the self-professed titles. I mean, to some extent Spacey is doing a bit of Hackman's Luthor, but he's putting enough of his own spin on it to feel like more than JUST a ripoff, and unfortunately it's hard to say the same for Routh. I thought he would have been good for the role, but it seems like he was told, "Hey, just play this exactly like Christopher Reeve."

somehow, the climax of this movie just...i dunno...doesn't seem climactic enough or something...maybe they should have showed the East coast starting to flood or something...the whole movie, and almost EVERY Superman movie, honestly, is just too long.

Man of Steel - Despite some reservations it's probably my new favorite Superman film. It's also probably the best movie I've seen this year.

Xtro 2 and 3 have nothing to do with the original film, the creature in Xtro 2 looks similar to the same quadraped thing from the first.

Apprently back in 2010 the director of the first film said he was working on Xtro 4 but there's been no news since so you could probably call that project dead.

The Thief of Bagdad (silent version)

I'm a big fan of the '40s remake, so I had to see the original. Despite only the vaguest similarity in plot and a few of the same magic items (including the iconic flying carpet) the films both capture a really similar tone, capturing that fairytale adventure feel without doing a straightforward adaptation of one in particular.

I don't think anything in this film comes quite as close to the utter coolness of the giant djinn in the remake, but the tree man and underwater spider deserve mad props all the same.

Evil Dead (2013)

... hmmmm, yup, sufficiently groovy. Makes me want to get the Blu-Rays of the originals.
